SPEAKER_02I don't even know anymore. We're recording late today, so it's Saturday the 16th.
SPEAKER_04Yep, so y'all gonna probably hit us. Uh it'll be uh Sunday morning. Welcome back, y'all. Welcome back. Yep, this is your favorite podcast coming out of New Orleans, Louisiana. This is Rome in the Streets. And we apologize about being late this weekend, but uh give it up for y'all for being here.
SPEAKER_02Give it up to Paige for graduating. That's why we late. That's a girl. Well, girl Pelican. She's a nurse.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she would she graduated uh nursing school uh yesterday. Give it up for her.
SPEAKER_02That's my crazy.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes, yes. And uh yeah, so we couldn't we couldn't recall yesterday because uh AT Booze and then uh Uncle Rome and Dad and everybody else that's involved was uh was busy. So I mean uh but yeah man, I I can't I can't be proud of my my young and um for going through and and muscling through nursing school, which I which I hear is like the hardest um curriculum to take in a college program.
SPEAKER_02That's tough.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um I do I uh kind of wanted to start out this episode with one quick thing. Uh we gained a new supporter on our Buzz Rout. Um whoever you are, Frank Cisco, thank you so much. Welcome to the club.
SPEAKER_04Yep, thanks for our new support. We got that uh we got that all day. If y'all want to sign up, um you can be like Frank and go to our Buzz Sprout and go to the donate page. There's a little donate button at the top of the page of our little Buzz Prout uh website. And you can donate as well, man. Give it up for Frank, man. Appreciate you again. Yeah, you don't I don't know if I know Frank or you might know him. Use whoever whoever he is, uh I'm sure we both may have been nice.
SPEAKER_02We might know who it is, but this is our first quote unquote supporter who we don't know who it is. So it's it's a stranger, and that's a that's a big deal for us.
SPEAKER_04So we know a lot of Franks, but dude, we may not know their last names. Right.
SPEAKER_02I mean, like Diamond D is in here as well.
SPEAKER_04Diamond D. Diamond D. Shout out to Diamond D. Shout out to all our supporters.
SPEAKER_02You want to list all the Juliano and Fuego, we got Diamond D Dave, the Porters, sweet Jesse, and and our newest guy, uh Frank Sister.
SPEAKER_04Frank, what up, Frank? Let's get that plug. Let's go one more time. Thank y'all. We appreciate that support, man. Shout out to y'all for believing in us and uh coming back every week and and and enjoying our show. We appreciate it. We uh we enjoy the support. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_04So, booze, I was uh first of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Rome Enterprise. Give it up for me. I'll be your host for the evening. Y'all come on season two, man. We blowing through it.
SPEAKER_02Um, only a couple episodes left.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and I want to introduce my lovely, my beautiful, my rosy red co-host, Ashley Boo. Give it up for booze. That's my girl. We always in them streets. Yeah, Rome is always in the streets with booze. Um, matter of fact. Let me kick the theme music off. Um, matter of fact, we went to a cool spot today, man. We want to talk all about it. If y'all don't mind if we talk about it, uh please uh sit back and enjoy our little broadcast. We do this every week. We try to, at least, you know what I mean. So uh we do our best to bring y'all what's poppin', what's happening in this great city of New Orleans. Give it up for us. Come on. Yeah. And uh, you know, this week we went to a fire spot. Once again, please, please check out our previous episodes, man. We got a bunch of them on there. If you want to find some local good food, some pop-ups, some little hole-in-the-wall gyms, some restaurants that you may or may not have heard of. Uh, we're here to bring it to you, roam in the streets with booze. That's what we're all about. We've been telling y'all this from day one. You know, we're here to try it out for y'all and uh let y'all know what we think, and then you go out and try it for yourselves. We want to give a big shout out to Cupcake Kitchen from last week. If y'all wanna uh y'all wanna check out that episode, please go back and uh I think you'll like it. So check that one out. Um, we talked to uh Cupcake Kitchen about what they had going on and you know had a few drinks and whatnot. And we in the streets, man. You already know roam in the streets with food. So welcome back. We did uh we did do some uh adventuring off actually, we did it this morning, right before this broadcast. Right before I tell us hey, yeah, man, we got a vote today. So we'll tell y'all about it later in the show, but uh welcome back, y'all. Welcome back. Some other shit happening in the city. Yes, this is voting weekend. I think today is the last day, is it?
SPEAKER_02Yep, yeah, it's important too.
SPEAKER_04So um went and did it. You know, we don't normally go political on this show, but uh, you know, it's I think we do think it's important that you get out there and and do your part as a citizen. I mean, a taxpaying citizen. You will want to uh get out there and and and and represent, man. Put your uh put your vote in. So shout out to all the voters and everybody who participate in what happens in this great city. It is a great city. Um, yeah, get out there and vote. What else is happening? I know we meet we late on the weekend, so we already missed a bunch of stuff that's happening in the city. I think as we speak, uh Keat Lee uh family day is happening at the Lake Front Arena. Am I right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the Lake Front Arena, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yep. Shout out to them. Um see what that's all about. I guess we'll get some some details and reviews. I won't be attending, unfortunately. Yeah. I know.
SPEAKER_02I got so many things that I was obligated for today, and I'm like, I don't know what a what, if any of them, I'm gonna actually do.
SPEAKER_04Commit to. You gotta commit, booze. What you gonna commit to?
SPEAKER_02Well, so me and we've got a group of friends called the Loonies.
SPEAKER_04Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02It's all a bunch of um just random ass people. And we were planning on doing the the bayou, just kayaking the bayou, but planes kind of fell through, so a few of them are still gonna go kayaking, but they're gonna do it paddleboarding and kayaking.
SPEAKER_03Have y'all see the gators in that fucking place?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, whatever. With a what's y'all name? The loonies?
SPEAKER_02The loonies, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the loonies are not free to gators. All right, give it away.
SPEAKER_02Uh but they're gonna they're gonna do it on the north shore at the Vogaflya, like near like the Chimes and Covington, like send off right there. So I might go do that later today, but they're they're hopping in the water at like noon, and I'm like, there's no way I can get across the lake by noon.
SPEAKER_04See how committed Booze is to bringing this info to y'all? She skipped our on all the kayaking trips and whatnot. Give it up for booze, y'all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and there's also the second annual um bubble day, the bubble party in the French quarter. Do you remember about that last year?
SPEAKER_04Uh, was it the guy who got uh all butthurt with the bubble machine?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Bubble machine, and so more bubbles appeared somehow. Yeah. I kind of remember the bubble gate.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, yeah, it's kind of what it is. So they're having the second annual uh today. Bubblegate.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, today, which is Saturday, which you'll probably it'll be over by the time you guys hit this. Apologies once again.
SPEAKER_02For for one of our supporters, Carrie uh Porter. Uh happy birthday, by the way. Happy birthday, Carrie. It's your birthday. They're they're going there, and I'm supposed to go with them to do that too, but I'm just like, I've just got so many other things I've got to get done.
SPEAKER_04Options, booze. You gotta weigh your options. Uh a lot of uh options being weighed um uh in in my world as well. I mean, it's it's it's like do you sleep or do you just get shit done?
SPEAKER_02Um sometimes the sleep is so fucking good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the sleep is is is well well uh worth it, I think. Um the rest is better. You don't want to scatter yourself too.
SPEAKER_02I know my partner here texts me at 7 42 this morning. I'm like, I ain't awake yet.
SPEAKER_04Yep, I I like I'm up early. You know me, I'm up with the chick. It's come on. Yeah, we have the we had plans to meet at nine this morning, and uh I was like, mm-mm, my shit set for 8 15. And that do not disturb. Let me tell you something, people that do not disturb whatever the shit is y'all got on y'all phone, and and you don't want to be disturbed, and it tells me you don't want to be disturbed, you gotta notify me and I'm gonna send the message anyway. Hey, give it up for me and all the other people that just send that message anyway, and they'll get it, they'll get it, and they'll respond or they won't, you know. Yeah, I'm like, I get it. Hey, but when you do, and I like the feature on the uh on the phone where you can send the message later. Yeah, so you can send it pick a time that you want to send a message. And I love that feature. If y'all haven't utilized that yet, uh you should try it because um it works sometimes. Because you don't want to text, yeah, because you don't want to text people too early in the morning or too late at night, but you wanna, while it's on my mind, let me uh put that uh text in and we'll do a repatch real quick with booze. Come on now. Y'all know how our technical go. Now she gotta clean. Hey, they didn't even notice. I talked over it that time. But uh give it up for us. Yeah, that do not disturb shit does not work on me. I will send the message anyway.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I'm going to too. I don't give a shit.
SPEAKER_04Nah, but it's a cool feature.
SPEAKER_02I love it though. I mean, I'm mine, it's it's set as kind of like my nighttime alarm, right? So my do not disturb goes on at about 10:30 at night and doesn't come off until 8 a.m.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Man, shout out to my uh daughter again for the graduation this weekend. Uh it was uh it was a big success. She did a she had to get a nursing penny. How was it? Everything everything looked great.
SPEAKER_02You showed me, I saw a bunch of the photos.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the photos look great. Um it was a great time. It was it was it was a little hectic at some at points, just trying to get everybody who was attending the um graduation uh to kind of get all in sync and kind of sit in the same area. And when you get there and there's like 3,000 people, it's it's chaos, and you can't find anybody. Once we work through all of the kinks, which we did pretty well, give it up for Shell. She held it all the way all the way down. She always gonna do it. She should be an event planner or something.
SPEAKER_02Like she should uh we'll get we'll go into business together, it'll be the other realm in the booth.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it'll be uh Booze Enterprise. Booze and Shell. I mean, booze and shell wedding plan and a son. I mean, she needs to be in something because the way she just coordinated everything, and I just kind of stood there like, okay, just tell me what to do, tell me what you need from me.
SPEAKER_02That's how that's how my uh trip to Chicago is gonna be in a couple months. Yeah. Larac's just like, just tell me how much money you need.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you're gonna have to coordinate grown adults.
SPEAKER_02Can you buy my plane ticket? I'll pay you back. Like, Jesus Christ, you're a grown ass man. Can't buy your own plane ticket.
SPEAKER_04You're gonna be moming the whole time you're out there, but thanks to y'all, we we able to do what we could do. So shout out to Shell again for holding it down and shout out to Paige for actually doing her thing. And she had a lot of attitude and swag when she was going across across the stage and in the world. Yeah, she got that big boss energy, baby. She was like, I saved, uh, you know, it was many times I didn't go out there. I I didn't go to the to the parties and to the and to the clubs and whatnot. Um, just so I can say all in studies, so I can be here right now. She likes, but all of that, you know, is over, so it's time to party. Hey, shout out to Paige. Uh got a nursing degree, got a little RM. Um, so proud dad right here, and I'm sure uh Shell is a proud mom. All our aunts and uncles.
SPEAKER_02Glowingly proud.
SPEAKER_04All our aunts and uncles and all the support we got over the years to get page to that point. We appreciate it. So yeah. Yes, yes, yes. Big weekend. Um, I'm exhausted. I can't front. I'm exhausted. Uh, not much from me happening besides that. Uh that um graduation was a was a big deal. We had uh we've been looking forward to that day for like, you know, five years, four and a half, five years.
SPEAKER_0118 plus years.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, guys. So glad that's over with, man. Shout out to us for being done with that part of our daughter's life.
SPEAKER_02Now she can move on and get an old job and welcome to the um start off at the VA, correct?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she uh she got a scholarship while she was in college to the uh VA through the VA uh program. And um she has to do uh three years at a VA hospital. So Okay. That's gonna be good for her. And I heard the VA hospital is is a good place to start. They do a lot of mentoring and like um shadowing with other nurses, so they don't just throw you in a in a fire. They kind of they gotta get you used to what's going on around there, which I think is good.
SPEAKER_02So and she wants to focus trauma, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she's gonna she's doing the ER um ER nursing, and she told us yesterday, it was kind of a little bit of a surprise to me, but that she's uh she's going to um get a doctorate. What's the next step? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, she wants to be a doctor, or she wants to go like an NP.
SPEAKER_04She wants to be a nurse practitioner, so MP is not a good thing. I mean, which is basically basically a doctor, yeah. But um, so she's going that route and she's planning to start school in three years.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow.
SPEAKER_04So after she's done with her mentorship program by the time she's finished with the VA, she'll be ready to go back to school and yeah, she'll be 25-ish. Still pretty young.
SPEAKER_02Ready to go.
SPEAKER_04Still pretty young. Um, yeah, shout out to Paige one more time. Thank y'all, thank y'all, appreciate that.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to man too. He's just hanging out. Man is um man is he still doing the mechanic program?
SPEAKER_04He's uh he's planning, he didn't let us know, but he he set out for a semester. And uh, yeah, he's going back. So he's going back this summer to get back into the automotive mechanic program at Delgadoo or Delgado, however you Delghetto, depending on where it is. But Delgado Um Community College, uh, shout out to y'all.
SPEAKER_02Everybody Mike Andings is teacher, then.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Mike Andings over there. He's uh he's taught man before, and man's learning a lot about cars and hey Mike, I still need my AC fixed. Yeah, what's up, Mike? Um and he's learning a bunch of the new uh computerized technology and battery operated and you know, EV cars.
SPEAKER_02That's the way to go, man. If you're if you're if you're hopping into the mechanic field now, the way to go is to really specialize in EV and get your all your certifications in EV because it just pays so much more. And I mean, coming from somebody, yeah, and well coming from somebody who works in the automotive industry, yeah, the rates for EV vehicles are astronomical. Like your normal mechanic rate is already out of control, but if you put that EV on it because of the the c the risk of death with the batteries and whatever, the they can charge the most obscene prices.
SPEAKER_04It's insane. And it's the technology is like is advanced so far.
SPEAKER_02I would definitely guide him to diesel work. Or diesel work because diesel you can do once you once you get that that that knowledge of diesel work, you can you can transition into like shipping and things like that where there's a lot of real money and go work on boats and things like that. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04It's endless for any of those trades, if you any kind of mechanic, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, anything. The trade, yeah, any trade like that, man. Shout out to anybody in those trades or or or studying to become that. Um, more power to you because that's the future, and it'll always be around and you'll always be employed. Um, so I feel good about having two kids that have uh jobs that they can go pretty much anywhere in the world and be able to find employment. Um yeah, shout out to that. Thank y'all. Uh yeah. Because some industries don't translate, like for me, for instance, after the writer's strike and whatnot, and the film industry has just become like a lol in work. And it's like, well, uh even outside of the US, it's it's I would have to move to another country to find work. And what, you know, who's willing to pick up and just move away because of their industry, and it shouldn't have to be that way. So I feel my kids should be able to be uh employed wherever they are, you know, whether they want to stay here in the States or move abroad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I kinda thought I would always have the opportunity to have a job with my insurance job, but uh the older I get, the more AI is uh overtaking it. So I'm like, man, that job security is not as that job security is not great. But I did get some great news. This is semi-personal, but it's not that big a deal. I don't really care, but I finally um I I called my CPA back about my taxes. And uh you know, I always owe every year because I'm a you know, I'm a S-Corp, I'm a you know, I'll file 1099, um, all that kind of good stuff. So um, you know, I've I've always paid taxes ever since I started my business 13 years ago. This is the first year in 13 years that I'm actually getting a refund. I'm like, hey, that's great, that's great, that's great. But then I'll look at it and I'm like, no, that means I'm poor, I'm poor, I'm poor. Because all of my expenses are the same, but my income has dropped by nearly 50% from the insurance. Now, the the other good point is as much as we hate the orange man, it allowed there's the no tax on tips, so that doesn't go into my income now. So that little extra kind of kept me under that line. So now my expenses over you know, we're over what my taxes would have been. So I'm actually getting a little baby refund. And I can't believe it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, nice. Well, good for you, boozy. Get a little bit back. Um, usually because I had kids my whole adult life. Yeah, we always look forward to getting a little back. You know, just a little bit.
SPEAKER_02But um I'd rather pay than have kids. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I feel you. Hey. Um, I'm so proud of my kids. I couldn't be prouder. Uh, and it's a long journey. It is it is tough. Um but you know, we still young, and now that we have an empty nest, um we start exploring and traveling. So uh yeah. So now you're supposed to do, you know what I mean? Three weeks we head off to Bali uh for a couple weeks and gotta go through Taiwan and you know, get to see some things. So you know, it it kind of turns itself around at the end, but yeah, you're right, booze. I don't know. Would you you you rather pay taxes than have kids? Yeah. Pretty much.
SPEAKER_02It's cheaper.
SPEAKER_04Oh man.
SPEAKER_02And I have way less gray gray hairs than my sister. My sister's only what 17 months older than me. A lot of gray hair. Yeah, she's got that gray ass hair, and I just got like little sparkles, you know? So I was like, yeah, no, I'm I'm I'm good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, give it up for pool, give it up for pool. Smart, smart keeping it, uh, keeping it just uh very simple, very low overhead.
SPEAKER_02I'm not saying I didn't have a scare or two in my life, but thankfully it all worked out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it uh it all what it all usually does, and it's working out that y'all listening to this show. So give it up for y'all. We appreciate y'all each and every week coming back and listening in.
SPEAKER_02Um, you want to talk about where we went today, or you uh I was gonna bring up one other thing before we go start on that, but I wanted to um uh basically say, you know, congratulations on helping our community out so much. Theo with Lemon Pop is hanging her hat. Oh she she got a new job about a year ago, and she it is a very, very involved job. Um, and she just doesn't have the time to commit to Lemon Pop. She actually asked me if I wanted to run it, and I'm going, no, I'm already running three socials, I can't run a fourth. That's actually gonna take me, you know, 15 plus hours a week to run. I was like, I don't think I want to do that. But um, she's hanging the hat up on Lemon Pop. So um it is going by the wayside. So um congratulations on the past three or four years of just really job, though.
SPEAKER_04What informative piece of it?
SPEAKER_02Doing such a wonderful job doing and doing it virtually for free. I mean, she got some contracts from some bars and things like that, but um, you did a wonderful job, you've done so much to help you know these small businesses. Um, I mean, I and I can I can't even count how many of these small pop-ups um turned into brick and mortars over the over the time that she has been running this, and I can only really contribute that to her because um nobody else is really doing what she says. And that's kind of where we come in. We're we're kind of piggybacking on that and you know, highlighting these small pop-up spots and letting you know where the new fun places are. And that's kind of what we did today, you know.
SPEAKER_04But we're taking over for you, Lemon Pop. Don't worry. Come to the end of the road. It's such a sad thing, but uh we'll uh we'll hold it down for you. Play a little bit of this.
SPEAKER_02Come on. Man, this brings me back to like junior high dance, where it was like, you know, the hands on the shoulder and the hands on the waist, but like like if you was with them and you was in all clothes and the hands was on the top of your butt.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you had to you had to dance with your tie, not your belt. Come on.
SPEAKER_02That was the first time my butt ever got squeezed by a boy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's a fifth thing. What else do you do?
SPEAKER_02He was dancing to one of these slow songs, and he like grabbed my little butt. I was like, oh my god! I'm like, dude. I didn't remember his name. His name was Chase.
SPEAKER_04Alright, Limit Pop, this for you. We appreciate everything you did.
SPEAKER_02I love you so much, Dea.
SPEAKER_04Dea, we appreciate you.
SPEAKER_02And I can't wait for you to come with me to Chicago and watch him upstairs.
SPEAKER_04Let me pop, we're gonna miss you. You wanna send us the idiots to justice for pop ups or whatever you know. If you have any uh inside info, let me pop, we'll take it over here, roam in the streets with booze. Come on.
SPEAKER_02Hey, we're gonna pull it down, stay on the streets with two. Yeah, that's how it goes.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Good job, booze. Good job. Good second job. You idiot now, but uh I am a big old idiot. Lemon pop, we're gonna miss you uh for real. Um uh appreciate all the shit.
SPEAKER_02Um but she'll be around, she'll have a little bit more mental clarity and sanity and everything now because like I said, she's she was dedicating a solid 15 hours a week to that on top of her regular job and everything else. So I'm like, it's it's it's a lot to manage. So, you know, kudos to her for really doing something super helpful for this community and for everyone involved. So thanks again. We absolutely love you, Thea.
SPEAKER_04Yes, good luck in the future and all your future endeavors, uh, roaming in the streets with booze. We'll hold it down, and we're here for you whenever you come back. If you come back, we'll be waiting on you.
SPEAKER_02We'll be waiting at the Batcher.
SPEAKER_04At the Batcher.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, checking out all the new stuff.
SPEAKER_04All right, so we went to a new spot today. Uh, not a new spot to y'all or uh, it's it's well, it's relatively new.
SPEAKER_02It's only been open, what, about a year or so, year and a half? That's a bad thing.
SPEAKER_04The food we went to has uh you know been mentioned on the show before. But uh yeah, we went over to the Batcher out there uptown with our Baltimore neighborhood. Yeah, yeah, we went out to the Batcher, and man, if y'all look at the photos on our Instagram, y'all will see a cool place. Yeah, it's a really dope spot to hang out. It's like uh how Jeff described it earlier, it's like a really bougie playground for kids. Um with you know, in a bunch of addering at chairs, right on the river.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, you can watch stuff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you can watch the you can bring the kids and and let them run around, play around.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. Which is good because a lot of kids are, you know, especially like little boys and little girls, they're all they're obsessed with like boats and trucks and trains and things like that. And all of that goes right up in that area. So um it really helps to, you know, get these little kids seeing what they're they're love playing with in their at their home. You know what I mean? Like what kid doesn't have boats in the bathtub and you know, big old trucks on the exactly the 18 wheelers, any of that train, train sets and all of that.
SPEAKER_04It kind of opens the imagination for kids. So it's a a perfect spot for kids to go and hang out.
SPEAKER_02Um it is any kind of food you want, really, too.
SPEAKER_04I mean, there's uh Yeah, there's everything out there. I think is is they kept the theme based around like shipping and like uh the uh Mississippi, it's it's got a very Mississippi River I feel vibe to it. Um there's a cute little snowball stand right when you walk in and it's made from the top of like an old tugboat. Yeah, like the little watchtower kind of looking for the what do they call it?
SPEAKER_02What's called the bridge, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh of a you know a tugboat. So it's cool. You know, it's it's got a lot of um, yeah, what's the biggest boat? It doesn't look really new. The only thing that looks new is really the furniture. I think they kept the the vibe as very like beach. Shanties and little it's very cool. Uh and we went over there and and took a walk around. Like I say, we got tons of pictures, uh, well, a few pictures on the uh Instagram. Y'all go over there, check that out.
SPEAKER_02So we had to go see our friends.
SPEAKER_04Hey, you want to tell them who it is?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, y'all know. I mean, we we talk about them more than we talk about just about anybody, but um Flower Moon now has a uh a bagel truck. Um, and they normally park it uh on Tulane's campus during the week. Um, but since it's summer break, they park it at the Batcher. So uh early in the morning, get get that nice, beautiful summer morning where it's a little little crisp, but you know, and then it starts to warm up and you get your little bagel and then you know, you get your little snowball or your little frozen yogurt or whatever.
SPEAKER_04There's ice coffee, there's uh there's a cute little like uh Odega style store. Grocery store, like a country store, but you can get uh you can get wine, you can get um there's beer and a little bit. Chicago dog flavored chips. Yeah, I saw that. Give it up for that. That was wild. I knew if anybody would find stuff like that, it'd be you. Uh in the in a little grocery store. But she found the uh what was it?
SPEAKER_02Like the It was all like Chicago, it was all these chips that were like, I guess it's a chip company based out of Chicago, but they had like the Italian beef, they had a deep dish, they had a Chicago dog, they had another one that I can't think of off the top of my head, but they were all you said Italian beef, or yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh that's the one I remember you mentioning. But shout out to that little corner store. I've never seen that before. Um, those kind of chips and whatnot. There's little specialty items and seltzas and also a coffee bar. Uh-huh. Willing to take your orders.
SPEAKER_02There was um there's Nell Shell, which is Lady Nell Oysters, which I hear are hands down the best oysters in the city.
SPEAKER_04I haven't tried, they wasn't open when we went there.
SPEAKER_02No. Not on not all of the little food trucks or huts are all open all day, every day. They're all got kind of different hours.
SPEAKER_04Because most of them serve as lunch.
SPEAKER_02Bootsy's chicken. You've got Turkey and the Wolf, and they're doing crawfish right now, which smelled amazing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, shout out to them.
SPEAKER_02Delis, which is doing a yogurt. I didn't know if that was a frozen yogurt or just like a soft yogurt. I didn't check. Right. Um, you got juicy, which is a fresh juice bar. You check them out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I had a great juice from them. I I got a cold press. Uh it was beet, ginger, apple, and something else I forgot. Um, but it was delicious.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to the uh there's there's Bubs, which we all know, Bubs, and Bubs is Bubs burgers. Fantastic. And then there was Flower Moon, and uh we had to go see our friends. Um, so Jeff is um Jeff and Brienne are the owners. Brienne is the mastermind. Uh Jeff is kind of like your your front of house face.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and like we noted a couple weeks ago, they did just get engaged. So uh they're partners in life and partners in business and partners in everything. And we love them. And we got to go see them and and have uh breakfast with them. But uh unfortunately we didn't get any any little interview with them because they were just super busy.
SPEAKER_04It's a busy little food truck, and they said, Yeah, slinging a lot of bagels off of the food truck. I invented a bagel to the floor.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say you made it you made uh an original today.
SPEAKER_04I made the menu, y'all. I went there and they had the uh the chopped cheese bagel, which is ground chuck and uh chopped cheese sandwich, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was a chopped cheese.
SPEAKER_04On a bagel with the thinly sliced uh onions. Onions and lettuce and homemade pickles and tomatoes and mayo and pickles, tomatoes, and a spicy mayo and uh uh lettuce, right? I just said, can I get it without lettuce? I mean, I'm sorry, without the tomato and without the pickle. And can I add an egg to it? It was like, uh, that's the first.
SPEAKER_02Nobody's ever added an egg to the chopped cheese.
SPEAKER_04So give it up for me for inventing uh the Rome and we're calling it the Rome and the Batcher with booze.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04The Rome and the Batcher burger. Let's go, man. That was fire. Give it up for flour moon. I got photos on on the uh Instagram.
SPEAKER_02You got it on the everything, right?
SPEAKER_04On the everything bagel, it was fire.
SPEAKER_02I got it on the sesame because I was like, sesame is like a sesame bun.
SPEAKER_04I was like, yeah, but the um, what is it, the sea salt? Yeah, that one's good too. Every bagel is. And I don't I don't really eat bagels, so this is this is the first time I'm like indulging in bagels this often. We had one a couple weekends ago, and then this weekend it's the second bagel I've had that I've actually enjoyed. Um, so make a make a move over there to Flower Moon. Appreciate y'all, Flower Moon.
SPEAKER_02My mom has both but recently discovered bagels over the past like six, eight months or whatever. And she lived a whole life she she never had.
SPEAKER_04We don't do them now.
SPEAKER_02But she was buying, she she was buying like the little like lender's bagels in a bag from Walmart or something, and I found out I was like, oh no, ma'am. Yeah, absolutely unacceptable.
SPEAKER_04Can't let you do it.
SPEAKER_02I was like, you will never have to pay for a bagel again. I got you. I was like, but you're not gonna eat that shit. Yeah, I will bring over a six-pack of bagels. These are freshly made every week or two.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, these are freshly made every day.
SPEAKER_02Freeze well, surprisingly.
SPEAKER_04Like so good.
SPEAKER_02They are they are the best. I make I make myself little um pizza bagels all the time. Yeah. Um but it I mean, I did one like a flower moon. He they had a um the Creole Everything bagel recently.
SPEAKER_04Which is what is that?
SPEAKER_02With they basically put a tomato powder in the dough, so it's like this lightly tomato flavored everything bagels, spice. It's phenomenal. All right. They made the best little pizza bagels. I took pictures and sent it to them. They're like, holy shit, we gotta do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, is you giving them another idea?
SPEAKER_02Well, he said he's like, he said uh Jeff said that he wants to uh find a way to come park it up at the bar one day. And I was like, man, I was like, if you get you like rent you a salamander, you know, suddenly you could do that, like, you know, broiling on top to melt the cheese and shit. Yeah, yeah. I was like, you'd you'd fucking slay, dude. You'd slay.
SPEAKER_04Give it up for flower moon once again. We went out to the bachelor see them. And uh the grab uh the bachelor once again is a is a great spot. It's it's fairly new and uh it's right there by Ottoman Park and the Fly.
SPEAKER_02So if you know where that is, I think it's right up of Maple? Was that the street that it's right up?
SPEAKER_04I have no idea, but uh it's it's a tricky little way you have to make like a body fit haircut.
SPEAKER_02I missed it at first. It's walnut. You made it so beautiful view out there.
SPEAKER_04You can go out there and chill with your friends or bring the kids or the dogs, it's dog friendly. And uh plenty of views out there. I think there's a couple of restaurants there too, um, if I'm not mistaken.
SPEAKER_02I saw upstairs uh there was the clubhouse, but I didn't know what that was. We didn't go into that.
SPEAKER_04Oopsor. Um that was the uh it's in the more the front of the building. I think I saw like an actual restaurant with like seating and dining.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I didn't even notice that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's so it's pretty nice out there. Make it out there and make sure you go to Flower Moon and check them out.
SPEAKER_02Yes, go see go see them right there on North Dorsey Nois in the Greenway. Um go check them out at their brick and mortar, which they've been there now like about three years.
SPEAKER_04Yep, pretty much.
SPEAKER_02I think about three years.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_02Um they've had their food truck now for close to a year.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Right at about a year, you know, and uh They've been doing well.
SPEAKER_04They're doing great. They've been doing well.
SPEAKER_02They've been doing great. They've been doing like I'm so proud of them. I'm just uh like you know, when when you see your friends succeed, they like that's one of the greater joys in life is when you see your friends succeed. And I really believe that. Like people that just are never happy are just the worst. Right. So like I share my my joy comes from other people's joy, and that makes it you know, right.
SPEAKER_04And watching watching uh even because uh I was at the farmer's market with my selling microgreens as a farmer. Don't forget Lake Tilly A, just go follow. Um, but uh we both kind of started out together at the same market and to watch them grow into what they are now. This is unbelievable to see. And um, yeah, big shout out to Flower Moon and man, y'all come a long way and y'all have a long way to to keep going and inspiring others. And you're I'm sure there'll be bagel shops all over the city at one point, you know, or or at least in every neighborhood. So uh looking forward to that. And um, yeah, y'all go check them out, please. They're on the bat they're at the battery on is it Saturdays only?
SPEAKER_02No, I'm uh you know, they didn't have their schedule posted, and I wanted to to really speak with Jeff about that so we could get their schedule at the batcher, but they'll be there most days throughout the summer. Umce the school starts back up, they'll be back at Tulane campus.
SPEAKER_04And like we said, if if not, you can go to the actual brick and mortar.
SPEAKER_02But definitely on the weekends they're there, and I'm sure a couple days during the week.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, doing or whenever we can get over there and check them out. The bagels are fire. So shout out to Flower Moon once again. Um and uh if you speaking of farming and my microgreens and all of that stuff, if ever y'all need some local veggies, uh excuse me, please reach out to River Queen Green.
SPEAKER_02So it's on their on their Instagram it says they are um at the Batcher Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
SPEAKER_04So that's what it is. Get over there.
SPEAKER_02And you can meet them at their bakery, uh, their normal spot, like I said, in Mid City. Um every day except Wednesday. They close on Wednesday, which is I think kind of fun because normally the service industry in New Orleans they all take off on Monday. So um it's one of the few spots that's like, you know what, let's pick a random day during the week, you know, and they they take that off, so you know, they get that midweek vacation.
SPEAKER_04Yep. Flower moon.
SPEAKER_02I want a midweek vacation.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I know. Vacation will be nice. I'm looking forward to mine coming up pretty soon. Um, I think Paige is going on a cruise after her graduation. I think it's starting. Uh she's flying to London and hanging out for three days. Then they take in the city. Oh cool. Yeah, to Spain and a couple other places, yeah. So give it up for Paige. She's gonna be on a big she deserved it. After nursing school, man, you deserve a vacation before the real work starts. So shout out to her.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you just reminded me. I I I've had a uh a string of good luck uh this week, which was which has been kind of nice because I d it's it's been a while since a few good things have happened to me in a while, but um one of those things uh was uh my passport. I was I was starting the renewal process of my passport and I was online and I was like, you know, the quickest way to communicate the passport and I clicked the link or whatever, and I thought I was on the correct website and I you know filled out the forms and everything like that, and I paid the the whatever and then it printed everything out and it was like okay, so you gotta send this off with your $130 for the passport. I was like, I just paid y'all $115. What do you mean I have to pay another $130? So they're like, you know, at the top of the form, it's like a call if you have any questions, whatever. So I called them, I was like, mmm. They're like, oh, well, no, well, we're not, we're not actually the government, we're a third party. Um, I was like, so what am I paying you $115 for? They're like, oh, to fill out the form. I was like, baby, I can fill out a form by myself.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02I am fully competent. I was like, I was like, this is bullshit. This is a scam. I was like, don't you worry, I'm gonna dispute this with my credit card company and I'll get my money back.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02Would you know they refunded me my money right then and there?
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_02I was like, yeah. I was like, you are taking advantage of scammers. Yes.
SPEAKER_04I hate scammers, but good for you, booze. You got to show their ass real quick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm like, mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, something ain't adding up. I gotta do that.
SPEAKER_02So now I just gotta keep keep my life lock alerts on to make sure I'm not getting like scam scam.
SPEAKER_04Check your shit, people, check your shit. People out here scamming. I fucking hate scammers. Um recently I had a little bit of a uh a scam scare where they told me I owed a bunch of money for a credit card. I'm like, wait, I don't even own a credit card. Yeah, I never had, I don't really have any credit cards to be honest. And it's like, so to have that one, yeah, I know I'm missing out, I heard. But uh nah, it's just like not having not just knowing my credit card history and for somebody to call me and still kind of freak me out a little bit, and I realized, man, this is a fucking scam.
SPEAKER_02Bro, I've had I had ATT call me one time. They're like, um, so somebody just tried to call in and like change all your billing information, and we just wanted to make sure that that was you. I was like, I was like, obviously not. They're like, Yeah, we didn't think it was you. They're like, it was an older man with a gravelly voice. I was like, Yeah, that's not a 40-something year old woman.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, why would you yeah so they're like, we asked for the pin.
SPEAKER_02They're like, he had all your information, but he didn't have your pin, so we decided we wanted to call you and verify. I was like, Yeah, don't ever yeah, no. They're like, we know, we know. I'm like, that's why that pin number is there. I was like, awesome, sweet.
SPEAKER_04What a what a world we live in, huh? Where people just want to take from others.
SPEAKER_02And you want to hear about my other really awesome thing that I got?
SPEAKER_04You win the lottery?
SPEAKER_02Kind of.
SPEAKER_04What I jackpot?
SPEAKER_02What kinda I did hit the jackpot with the Max. Max has passed out, by the way, because we took him to the batcher with us. And we got all his smells in. He got a piece of bacon from the food truck from Flower Moon.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_02Um but um I I met these customers who've had these new I'm calling them new regulars because I see them almost every day. But they're very, very sweet. Their names are JR and Amy. And we got to talking about a week ago, and JR is also an artist. Um, and we were talking about our dogs and baseball and everything. He's like, well, show me a picture of your dog. So I sent him, you know, the cutest picture of Max with his tongue hanging out looking all adorable as shit. And would you believe the following Monday, this past Monday, he came and brought me a hand like drawn photo of Max. Like, it's the most beautiful piece of art that encapsulates Max's personality. Like, you just see Max's big old tongue and his his sparkly eyes and his wonky ear, and I'm just like, man, crying happy tears on a Monday.
SPEAKER_04Like, well, what a joy, man. What a surprise. Shout out to the new regulars over there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, JR and Amy.
SPEAKER_04JR and Amy making booze hearts.
SPEAKER_02And they love podcasts, so they are now following the podcast. So they hear their shout-out.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Welcome, welcome, and welcome to all our uh other new listeners. If this is your first time listening to Rome in the Streets with Booze, welcome. Please visit our other episodes where we give you gems about different things happening in the city, different places to go, different pop-ups, different food ventures to have, and just cool ass places and bars to hang out at. So um, yeah, we was grateful to get out to the batcher this morning, have a great breakfast with Flower Moon.
SPEAKER_02And uh yeah, um I've eaten so much good food over the past like week. It's just like we had um, like I mentioned earlier in the pod, our friend Carrie Porter at her birthday, so we all went for a nice dinner at Venice. Venice, Venice, yes. We went there on Thursday. That's my spot and we ate like like we've never eaten before. I mean, we had two table pizzas, we had those two of those huge antipasta uh salads that feeds like an army each. Now the food is is great over there.
SPEAKER_04That's another that's another hidden gem.
SPEAKER_02I hope it's that that's a hidden gem for steak too.
SPEAKER_04Like one of the best steaks in the city.
SPEAKER_02And if you're a steak eater, super reasonably priced, too. Less than $40 for an eight-ounce filet, dude.
SPEAKER_04Or New York strip. And then you get a side of pasta, whatever pasta you want with it.
SPEAKER_02Um, I cannot stop my throat.
SPEAKER_04It's alright. Drink a little water, booze. Uh it's gonna be all right, baby. But yeah, um the Venezius spot is the spot to go, especially for large parties and like family-style.
SPEAKER_02Confirm your reservation because they did kind of screw that up a little bit.
SPEAKER_04Well, confirm your reservation first off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And uh they accommodate large parties, they they do it all the time. So shout out to Venezias once again, and don't sleep on that steak. They have a great steak. Speaking of steaks and having a great meal, Shell and I made it out to uh another uh another spot, which you know I'm uh Mr. John's. I'll I'll just throw it out there. Mr. John's Steakhouse um has a delicious uh steak. I think we did a cowboy ribeye and split it up. It was phenomenal. The size was great. Service was impeccable. So give it up for Mr. John's Steakhouse, just because we're talking about steaks. This is not they're not sponsors, they're not giving us uh, you know, any payola to do this. We just shot out some gems, some hidden gems. So uh give it up for them and give it up for y'all for listening to us ramble for the last what 30, 30 minutes.
SPEAKER_0230 some odd minutes. It's it'll probably be a little bit shorter of a show today. Yeah. We've all we we're not a lot happening.
