How y'all feel? Welcome. What up? You do?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my grandparents lived there. My mama grew up there. I grew up in the East, but um my my grandparents lived right on Eads. Yeah, so right between New York and Mexico. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, right close to the lakefront. Right. Like, yeah, just I think a couple blocks off of Robert E. Lee.
SPEAKER_02Eads is where my grandmother lived. Yeah. On East Street. Oh wow. Give it up for Rome and Booze Grandmas Living on East Street in uh Seabrook neighborhood. That's in the Gentili neighborhood. Yep. Welcome back, y'all. But yeah, we got a good uh we got a good show for y'all today. A lot happening in the city. Um we want to first let me first introduce myself. My name is Rome Enterprise. Give it up for me, Rome Enterprise. I am your host. I'd love to give it up to my wonderful, my beautiful, my rosy red co-host, Ashley Booze. Give it up for Ashley.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, that's me. Did y'all know that's me?
SPEAKER_02What up, Booze?
SPEAKER_01What's up? You know, same shit, same toilet.
SPEAKER_02Same toilet, same carpet, still warm all over. Y'all, y'all remember that from a couple weeks ago. But anyway, uh, we are back. We have a fire show for y'all. Um, you want to let them know what's going on, booze? You want to start with something in particular? How was your week? How was your week?
SPEAKER_01Uh man, you know, it's one of those weeks where it just like when Friday finally hit, you're just like, oh, I'm so over this fucking week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You just want to sit down and just have a drink or whatever. But you know, still had shit going on. I had a little thing across the lake on Friday evening. So I uh got to see a bunch of all of my old, you know, Slidell bar friends. Give it up for the slide 11. I I I love them so much. It's such a random place, and not a random place, but I have so many ties there. But every time I go back, somebody's like, oh my god, you're Ashley Booze. Oh my god. I'm it's so nice to finally meet you. I've heard all about you, and I'm like, y'all, I'm like, it's such a weird thing.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Ashley Booze is well known. You are well known. I mean, your name, you have one of those cool names, though. Like everybody remembers.
SPEAKER_01It's a go you'd be surprised how many of us there actually are, though. How many Ashley's? No, how many booze? Oh, really? Yeah, there it's like my family. Like see, I got a picture I could show you at a different time. You know what? I might actually put it up on the roam in the streets thing just to show you. But I have a picture of my great great grandparents with their nine kids or eight kids.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_01And then you could so you'll see my great-grandpa in there. And then each one of those kids had like five to seven kids.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_01You know, so like everybody just kept having freaking kids. Yeah. And when it came down to like my generation, everybody's like, okay, let's chill out a little bit. Let's have like two to three or two. We don't need six, seven, eight kids.
SPEAKER_02Right. Well, um, shout out to having kids, populating the all the boozes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to y'all wherever y'all are. Um, we do appreciate you. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01We need to slow down on the population, man. We got too many people on this planet right now.
SPEAKER_02Oh, really? You think so?
SPEAKER_01Well, no, that's what scientists would just say, and they're like, this planet can only sustain like two and a half billion people.
SPEAKER_02I thought it was vice versa. I thought we were slowing down already.
SPEAKER_01No, there's like almost nine billion people on this planet, and we can only like really, you know, take care of like a third of that.
SPEAKER_02Out of the nine billion, we appreciate the the few that's listening to us right here. Rome in the streets with booze. Y'all, our nine billion. You know what I mean? Let me go ahead and play some funky fresh. Oh, that's booze sit right there. Come on, y'all. Welcome back. We got a lot happening in the city.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and in outer space.
SPEAKER_02In and out of space. We're gonna talk about it. Come on. You are listening to the best podcast coming out of New Orleans, Louisiana. This once again is Rome in the Streets. Yeah, with booze, alright. Whip booze, alright. Whip booze, alright. And a little bit. And we got my homie Max in the building. Give it up for Max, y'all. Hey.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02We want to shout out all our supporters, our constantly people that's donating.
SPEAKER_01Uh Julian, the Porters, Dave, Jesse, Shell. We love you.
SPEAKER_02I don't think we've got anybody. Yeah, new, our new uh subscriber, Jessie, what's up again? We get another shout out this show.
SPEAKER_01Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah. We appreciate everybody who go to our Buzz Sprout, everybody who go to our Instagram. You can find a link to our Buzz Sprout in our Instagram. And you can uh donate as well. You can become part of the crew.
SPEAKER_01Little Beer Month.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a bear a month. You buy it from me in Booze, you donate, and uh it helps the show go a long way. Yeah. So without uh further ado, let's let them know what's going on in the city this weekend.
SPEAKER_01Well, it is Easter weekend, man. So you know what that means. It's Crescent City. Yep, Crescent City Classic. You had all them good church fish fries, the last ones of the season yesterday. Good Friday, I should say good Friday. Everybody, you know, everybody's gonna be boiling all weekend.
SPEAKER_00Big boils happening.
SPEAKER_01To me, like to me, Easter signifies the end of crawfish season. I know it's not technically over, right? But like that's kind of how I look at it. Like I look at crawfish season as pretty much Lin.
SPEAKER_02You think it peaked already?
SPEAKER_01Well, this to me, this is when the big I've talked about this before, those certain, those Bell River crawfish. They're like the big boys with them big old meaty claws that you can just like pop them, that sweet claw meat, all that good stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How do you how okay? I think it's like prime crawfish season right now to be.
SPEAKER_01They're great right now. I mean, I like I said, I know it's not uh over, but like this is to me, it's like okay, we're winding down. This is crawfish season starting to wind down.
SPEAKER_02But did you have a uh did you have a good uh good Friday meal?
SPEAKER_01I um I mean uh I didn't. I ate some chicken nuggets from it.
SPEAKER_02I thought you was a heathen.
SPEAKER_01Give it up to all the heathen observed who ate meat in years.
SPEAKER_02Yesterday, uh, none wrong. We still love you. It's all right. You ain't gotta you ain't gotta adhere. You can do what you want to do. It's your life. Uh you live it how you want to do it. Your afterlife. You gotta talk, you gotta deal with that, you know. Not me and booze.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I don't think I'm I don't think me eating meat on Friday is what I'm gonna be judged for.
SPEAKER_02No, we gotta your list is way longer than that.
SPEAKER_01In the good, in the positive.
SPEAKER_02Hey, give it up for booze, hey, keep it an authentic.
SPEAKER_01You know, and if you are looking for that crawfish, um, our friend Thea with Lemon Pop, um lemonpop.nola on Instagram, uh, at the very top of her um her page, uh, there's a crawfish calendar. So it tells you where to get crawfish in the entire city. All the pop-up spots, all the oh wow, that's great. Yeah, so um whatever neighborhood you want to go find crawfish in, you can find it.
SPEAKER_02Um and does it have the price per pound?
SPEAKER_01And like, no, it's just it's just like how, yeah, it just says, hey, here's this is popping up here or whatever. So um everything in BSJ, you know, uptown, downtown, you know, wherever. So I think we actually found one on her thing, and me and Jeff and Brienne from Flower Moon, we're gonna go hit one up. Uh I think it's the last time they're doing it. It's um palm and pine are gonna be at Black Penny on Tuesday. Oh, palm and pie. Yeah, shout out to the phone. So we're gonna, I think, I think the three of us are gonna get there early on Tuesday and try to scope out some of that coveted palm and pine crawfish. Okay, all right.
SPEAKER_02Do they do like a special, like uh they're doing a special thing at all?
SPEAKER_01Or is it just I'm I'm honestly not sure. I know Jeff and Brienne say it is hands down the best. I don't think it's Vietnamese style. I think it's just like super spicy, Cajun, you know, just like your good traditional boil. Like nothing beats a home boil, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01But there are those few spots that just kick it hard.
SPEAKER_02I know there's the one that pop up at Mail. I don't know, uh yeah, meow.
SPEAKER_01Meal, yeah. Uh what is it? Melee, melee pops up everywhere.
SPEAKER_02I've heard a lot of love on them, but I've never tried Vietnamese style crawfish, though they do like a salt, like a they pour a I know Porgies does.
SPEAKER_01You can get your crawfish there tossed or not tossed. Tossed. So you can get them tossed Vietnamese style.
SPEAKER_02You want your crawfish tall?
SPEAKER_01You want your tails tossed.
SPEAKER_02Tails tossed, come on with my booze and let them.
SPEAKER_01Actually, I I went with Jeffrey Brienne on last week and uh had some, and she got tossed, I got untossed, and their tossed is really up and solid.
SPEAKER_02All right. Really? Try that out. Go over there, and and that's Porgi's, right?
SPEAKER_01And that's on They got a strawberry daiquiri, too, right now. That's pretty fire.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. And they own Carolton and is that Bill? Carolton and BV, go check them out. Shout out to Caitlin and Marcus over there, man, doing the thing.
SPEAKER_01Our ladyfish mongers over there. We love them.
SPEAKER_02Bunch of ladyfish mongers over there. Um uh yeah, so we went to space. New Orleans went to space. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We know so many people too that worked on that project. So there's such a sense of pride for a lot of this community, knowing that you know, the engineers and the guys building and doing everything along it. I mean, I've got friends.
SPEAKER_02Right in the east.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I got friends all.
SPEAKER_02You should be proud. I mean that happened in the east in your hometown. My partner Perez would be proud.
SPEAKER_01That's his neighborhood. That's his name. I passed by there all the time.
SPEAKER_02The uh NASA. NASA. Oh, yeah. We we shot a lot of movies there on that uh on that camera.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's a there's a there's a movie lot thing that's like across the street, too. Is that the one you're talking about?
SPEAKER_02That's another stage, but we actually shot at in NASA and used one of those construction buildings as a sound stage.
SPEAKER_01Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_02Insane. Yeah, there's a big insane.
SPEAKER_01There's there's two big um, I call them crave car graveyards. There's Copart and IAA. So I go there regularly for insurance work. Um, so I I'm them streets are crazy out there, but I love just cutting through O'Jintilly Road and just bypassing the interstate sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's something to see back there. Shout out to NASA. Yeah, as well back there. People who uh made that happen, built all the rockets for us to go and circle the moon. How do you feel about that? What do you think is uh I think it's cool.
SPEAKER_01I I mean, every you know, everybody's like, oh, the moon landing didn't happen or we're not going to the moon or whatever. I was like, can y'all just be happy we're doing something dope as shit? Right. I mean, if the people we know, like our buddy Travis Martin, who is an engineer with NASA. You know, if he's worked his past ten years of his life plus on this, you you gonna tell this man that he's doing it all for the show?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, they doing shit. And uh if you don't um if you don't believe you should do your own little research, uh we are trying to make uh another moon landing happen. Um so this is just like a test run of to see if we can go around the moon and go to the dark side of the moon, you know, a couple of times. And if we survive, we can uh we can build some uh some rovers and shit to travel and we want to collect the helium that's on the moon surface.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh I think it was hydrogen and uh a couple other things.
SPEAKER_02I think I believe that's what it's called. Okay, and they uh it's just more uh combustive and more reaction. We use that for fuel to get back for more missions and yada yada. Make it to Mars.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I hey look, I don't believe in going, I'm not leaving Earth. I'm not moving to space. I don't want to look, I'll grow vegetables and and chicken and shit. Now we we can ship it to space uh if you want, but I'm not I'm not moving, I'm not leaving. Booze, what about you? No, no, I'm I'm I'm I'm not gonna do it. No interest in living on Mars or anything? Yeah, that's that's kind of out of it. But they kind of want to make it to where maybe in another life. I mean, as a race, I guess, with China to see who can get up there first and get established and try to because who whoever gets up there first make the rules, you know? It's like you make the rules, you get to control what's going on. Yeah, nobody owns it, so you call the shots up here. So you're the first one up there. Um, so I think that's what it is, too. Uh, but watching the uh because I watched the shuttle uh watching it take off. I'm wondering, man, my gas price is pretty high. I wonder how much fuel that's oh man, watching that thing burn. I'm like, look at our tax money burn, baby.
SPEAKER_01I can't remember. I could be talking out my ass right now, and that'd be fine because I do that quite a bit. But I had heard like years and years ago. I mean, when I was a little kid, my mom was telling me like the ha the way they have to cool it is they basically have like Olympic sized swimming pools worth of water underneath the boosters to like not set the world on fire because there's a whole thing. Yeah. That's wild, man. That's cool. But I'm I'm glad that they went, you know what I mean? We've gotta keep moving forward and you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Advancing in advancing in um our existence as humans. We gotta push the limit.
SPEAKER_01What was what was it? Space Force or whatever. There was a a show with John Malkovich and Steve Corell or whatever recently. I mean, I say recently, a few years ago. I think it was on Apple TV or something, but it was called Space Force. I'm gonna tell you, watch that show. It is absolutely freaking hilarious. You just love John Malkovich's character is primo.
SPEAKER_02It is so, so, so y'all got y'all notepads and pens. I'm sure y'all writing all of this down. We're giving y'all hitting gems, hitting gems all around. Yeah. Um, there's uh oh, by the way, if you uh if you didn't know, the Shell Matt Ferry is out indefinitely.
SPEAKER_01Indefinitely?
SPEAKER_02Indefinitely they can't uh the the bridge is not stable, stay is not it has a past inspection.
SPEAKER_01You know how many times I use that?
SPEAKER_02Yes, me too. It's literally right across the farm from the farm. So right across, I mean literally I can throw a rock and hit the fee store if I wanted to, but uh yeah, so uh you gotta go all the way around. It sucks. That's we gotta get that we gotta get that bridge fixed. Come on, New Orleans.
SPEAKER_01Man, I mean this is what you get for building on a swamp, dude. I mean, like you got I get it, the river. It's volatile, it's the biggest river in the country. One of the biggest in the world. But like, I mean, you got the bridge that connects like Slide L to um Mississippi. That one's been out since I don't know, the past five years or so. Like, so that whole evacuation route has been gone, and that little community that is right there has pretty much died. So yeah, it's not uh it's not I'm trying to think of Pearlington. So the little town of Pearlington is right in the town. I'm gonna be able to it's right in the middle of Slidell and um like Bay St. Louis and you would get to it by going the old Highway 90. And but you can't take that anymore because the bridge is out. So the little town of Pearlington is like dying. Right. You can get to it one other way, but you have to go all the way to the first Mississippi exit and then take a back road back in town. So like if you want to get to town, it used to be just you know ten minutes to get into Slide L. Right. Now it's gonna take you 45. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02So anybody that's gonna be like, I didn't realize that that bridge was out. I guess because I don't think it's a good one.
SPEAKER_01It's been out it's been out for a long time I used to take that way. It's been yeah, there's I think recently somebody said that we're gonna get it all fixed up and back together or whatever, but uh I mean that's a that's a lifeline for that community, and like I said, that that poor community has almost completely fizzled out and died. It's gonna be a ghost town sooner than later.
SPEAKER_02Oh well shout out to everybody who living in that area. Um if you listen and know somebody living in that area, go check on them, man, see how they do it. I parted out there once or twice. I was I think I did a farmer's market out there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh so that was cool. But um yeah, shout out to Pearlington and uh surrounding areas. Thank y'all for listening once again. Uh we appreciate y'all listening very much. Uh what else we got?
SPEAKER_01Um I I saw something really, really um important the other day. I was sitting at the bar, I was getting ready to leave, and I was just perusing Instagram and Facebook and whatnot. And I saw that for the first time in history, a 21-year-old man in New York was cured of sickle cell.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, that is give it up for that.
SPEAKER_01It's phenomenal. Do you know how incredible? I mean, that's it's so incredible.
SPEAKER_02That's important. That's very important.
SPEAKER_01That is huge.
SPEAKER_02So basically what they made people suffer with that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so basically what they did is they basically modified his own stem cells from his bone marrow so that it would produce normal hemoglobin. And once once they reintroduced that into its system, it was basically taking over, and the new, you know, properly working red blood cells were canceling out the ones that were compromised.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01So it basically allowed, you know, he these modified, they modified his own his own body and put it back in his body, and it's and now it's it's working, and it's and he's cured of sickle cells. So 21-year-old kid in New York, his name is uh, I think it's like Sebastian or something. I don't think I wrote it down. Um that's awesome news.
SPEAKER_02That should be great news for anybody suffering with that disease to uh that there's hope. There's there's there's that's a good sign. Um I think uh is is pretty a pretty cool technology.
SPEAKER_01I mean, what we what what they've figured out to do just you know with our own bodies uh is incredible.
SPEAKER_02You know, it's yeah, let's regrow let's regrow all our I'll get a new set of organs every 80 years. Just start growing my mouth and then you know you can live in the world. I just don't want to learn. I'm just gonna get 300 Modigras.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to go, I don't want to learn all the new technologies. No, I'm good, man.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to come on, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to keep learning new technologies.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna keep changing and then it might go back. It might go backwards. You could watch it go backwards and then it'll keep it.
SPEAKER_00Just Benjamin Button out of shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. It'll be awesome. Um, but yeah, if y'all ever want to write in with some topics, some things that's happening that that uh Booze and I don't talk about, please feel free to write in. Um our uh email is Rome the letter Noze Booze at Yahoo dot com.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, that's okay.
SPEAKER_02Do we still have to say.com?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I do.
SPEAKER_02I do too.
SPEAKER_01I mean at Yahoo.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because everybody knows it's.com.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if it's a.net, then say bellself.net, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or.org or whatever. I don't know. I don't know. I guess we should say.com too. Yeah. But anyway, give it up for us. Yeah, you can write us in. You can uh give us suggestions, let us know some spots we need to hit. We hit a great spot this week. Don't let us uh forget to tell you about it.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead. We might as well talk about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's do it. All right. What's the name? Give it to me. The name of it is uh drum roll, please. Go. Jamba claw.
SPEAKER_01Yamon.
SPEAKER_02We went over to Jambaclot. It's a new uh a new Jamaican spot in Jet Tilly. Shout out to Jet Tilly.
SPEAKER_01Right on the leisure fields, they've been open less than a month.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right in about a month. Oh, the food. Come on, booze. Let's talk about it.
SPEAKER_01Uh, I got the combo played. I needed to try more than one thing. You know me. I'm gonna I was hoping you were gonna get something different so we could try three things, but you were like, nah, I need that chicken. I need that chicken.
SPEAKER_02I had so I I went last week. I uh I actually went in there early, like during the grand opening, and uh and I had the curry goat. And man, when I tell you, the first time I ever had curry goat, I was living in Florida. I think I was like 20 years old. Never even thought of eating goat. I didn't know that was a thing. Being from New Orleans, we don't necessarily eat a lot of goat.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I uh it's not your top protein choice, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right. So, you know, with seafood.
SPEAKER_01But it's a very sustainable choice in the in these island countries.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, in the islands, it it works. So um, you know, being a young man, I go and I try it, and I I promise you, it was the same reaction I had from the first time I had curry goat. And I've had curry goat since, but it's something about the flavor of this food at Jamba Clot that uh it just took me back.
SPEAKER_01It took me back to the took me back to Montigo Bay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. It is, it is definitely. I don't know. Um, I didn't ask where what part of the island, what uh what parish they were from, but um I I want to say they they're from the Mobay Um uh Negrill maybe area.
SPEAKER_01Uh maybe I should do some maybe I should add uh it might be in that little interview.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we did a little interview. Um we'll put that up.
SPEAKER_01Uh uh since that's a video interview, we'll have to put that up on our Instagram as an independent thing instead of splicing it into the show today.
SPEAKER_02But so you won't hear from them in this show that will force now. You have to you have to go to The Instagram now, so you can see this lovely couple. They're doing anything. Give it up for them.
SPEAKER_01And they're so tall.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh my. I'm just like sitting down looking up. Oh my god, oh my gosh, you're so tall.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, his wife is the head chef. Uh his wife is the head chef. I forget about the colour. Beautiful. I mean good. I forgot both of them. I'm sorry, y'all. That's it. That's on me. Um, but uh they are both such lovely, welcoming people. She is more out of the kitchen and talking to her customers than she's, and then she'll go in the kitchen and like make a bunch of food, a bunch of plates, make sure everybody's good. And you know, and then she's coming back and and hanging out with her her clients, but her customers, but um, they have the the best uh fresh juices in there and all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, what juice did you get? Do you know?
SPEAKER_02I didn't uh I just told him give me one. I was like, whatever you got. Whatever you got. He was like, all right. But it tastes uh it was amazing. It w it had to be like a ginger and like guava or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it looked it looked like it had this kind of yeah.
SPEAKER_02They got jars of it in there.
SPEAKER_01I know. It's like the old like the big wine bottles, like the past or whatever. The whatever those are.
SPEAKER_02It's like the big glass jar with the small Yeah, the little small hole finger hole handle. Finger hole handle. You know what I'm talking about. Um, but there's plenty of juices in there. Uh what did you think of the food? What did you have?
SPEAKER_01I got, yeah, so I did the combo plate, which was only 20 bucks. Uh, and you got the cur I got the curry chicken and the jerk chicken. Nice. And that jerk chicken was amazing. And you got two sides with it. So I got the rice and peas.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01Which this is this was my my question to myself, and I meant to ask her. I was like, why is it called peas when it's beans?
SPEAKER_02Beans, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But it's just like big chunk, like bigger beans, not kidney beans. I don't know what kind of beans they are, but or peas they are, but uh it was good. Um there's not a whole lot of like salt and flavor in the rice so much, but when you eat it with the chicken, um, either one, it just pops and it's beautiful.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think it's made to be just like a like a light yeah, like a dry.
SPEAKER_01It's not it's not a this jambalaya rice. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00It's not this like nothing in it.
SPEAKER_01It's a very simple beans in there. And I got the dumplings too, which was basically just kind of like a fried dough. And she said these weren't her best ones. She used the wrong flour, so they were a little bit denser than they should have been. Which they were, but that outer crust because there's just fried dough, and that outer crust of the dough was just like so sweet. But the inside was a little, it was a little dense, but uh the flavor was still good. And again, if I dipped it in that jerk chicken, because there was a lot of that sauce still in the bottom for that jerk chicken. So I was just like eating this the rice with this sauce and the dipping of dumplings.
SPEAKER_02And there's something about a uh proper jerk sauce too that has just the right amount of tinge.
SPEAKER_01I know. I want uh I want like a dozen wings of those, like they have wings, they have it, they had a pizza oxtails. She said they do pizza, pizza, and I'm like, I'm kind of intrigued because I love pizza, you know.
SPEAKER_02I wonder, I mean, uh, see, that's gonna keep me going back, man. Shout out to Jamba Clock.
SPEAKER_01They were absolutely delightful. And they had a lot of business. I mean, it was just people kind of walking in, grabbing their food, getting out of there, or whatever. Not many people like sat and stayed and and ate, but they had a lot of people, and they're they're still new and they're still getting everything up and running. Um, they are on Instagram now. I've got to completely figure out our their insta handle. I'm not sure if it's just jamba clot or if it's jamba clot nola, something like that, but I have to find it, uh, tag them in it. And um I know they were working on all of that good stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They were having a business meeting right in the front of the room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right in the in the in the in the dining room. You have to do that, you know.
SPEAKER_01But it had a little like chess table and another little game table too, huh?
SPEAKER_02Well, chess and like dominoes is a thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know what that other table was. I should have asked.
SPEAKER_02I think I only saw the uh chess.
SPEAKER_01The chess one was all the way against the wall, and then there was another one that had kind of a lip, uh like probably about a one-inch to two inch raised lip around the edge, and it had this kind of triangular shapes in the middle.
SPEAKER_02And then you could tell it was some kind of game, but it wasn't bad gambling?
SPEAKER_01No, it wasn't like that. It was I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I shouldn't have.
SPEAKER_02Well anyway, it's uh it's a great spot. You don't want to miss out on the street. Prices are great. Prices huge portions. Yes, yeah. Prices are right where they should be. I think specials, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think lunch special lunch specials were$13 to$16. They really were not bad. And and again, it's you get your protein and two sides. Right.
SPEAKER_02So and I think uh I think I mean during the week, dinner time, I think those uh those prices are you know in the$20 range.
SPEAKER_01Not even yeah, I think the combo, you know, the combos are$20 to whatever the oxtail and I think the goat were a little bit more expensive than the chicken and the pork. Um but you can get whole fish, you can get a whole snap, or you know what I mean? Like they do all kinds of um seafood and vegan vegetarian options as well. Like jambaklot is an actual Jamaican dish.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01Um that's a vegetarian dish. Oh, okay. So that's where the name come from comes from.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01So they do offer that as a jamboklat ital, I think is what it's listed as.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Well, shout out to them, man. It's awesome in there. The vibe, the pictures are on the wall, and make it take it to Jamaica. I know, I mean.
SPEAKER_01I got a huge smile on my face the moment I walked in. I was like, Yeah, you know the food's gonna be good here.
SPEAKER_02You can tell, you can tell.
SPEAKER_01It smells like it, but it also has a super welcoming, super warm. Um, just very, very lovely, lovely people. And the girls behind the register, just the biggest smiles on their face, and so accommodating and help, happy to help you with the menu. You know, if you've got questions, they got the answers for you. So go try something new, go try something different if you've never had Caribbean food. Yeah, um, I am highly recommending this place. Um, I'd love to see, and they are being super welcomed by the neighborhood too, which is really, really great to see. They were talking about how how welcoming Gentilli has been, and how I think she said like 70-75% of their customers are already repeat customers in just the first month.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, and they haven't been open that long. I mean, I I I have been watching them rebuild that place, yeah, because it was a barbershop at first. And uh passing it every I've been passing it every day, and I'm like, wow, they're putting a uh authentic Jamaican uh restaurant. That's very good for the neighborhood.
SPEAKER_01Three or four little spots in that strip mall.
SPEAKER_02We need that in Gentilli in that neighborhood.
SPEAKER_01So I thought it was a great move, something authentic, mom and pop, and and a corner from our our our our buddy Julian's house too, because he lives close to you in Gentilli as well.
SPEAKER_02We live not far from each other.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's excited about having another really great spot.
SPEAKER_02It is amazing. So now we have some good barbecue that we could talk about one day. Yeah, you got the Kushan guys right there on one side on on um There's Afrodisiac, who we haven't I haven't been to yet, but that's that's like a Caribbean uh uh New Orleans Caribbean fusion type restaurant, supposed to be really good. There's a bunch of new little stuff around. So it's you know, you got the traditional fiorellas uh in the gentili neighborhood. So it's like aha, I'm starting to like where this going. Now there's uh I love seeing it because we need more of this.
SPEAKER_01You remember the old Ferreras supermarket? Yeah, I worked there.
SPEAKER_02I worked there when I was 15.
SPEAKER_01I used to get free blow pops there. There was a little old lady that worked the um the register.
SPEAKER_02She'll give you a blow pop.
SPEAKER_01And she would give me my sister, my brother, a little blow pop. I always wanted the green one.
SPEAKER_02Yep, sour apple. Yeah, blow, man. Um, I worked at that uh at that store for a few years.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, don't watch until it was like the pit.
SPEAKER_02The pit went to the pit all the time. Dollar movies. They had a lot of grease on the floor, but it was a dollar movie.
SPEAKER_01There was one time. There was one time we went during the summer, you know. It's hot in the summer. You when you're on a budget, you know, super low income, it's easier to just do the dollar movie, you know, in the summer. And we went one day to watch something. My sister sat in a pile of vomit. Oh shit. Needless to say, that sounded like the pit.
SPEAKER_02But look, you had taco. That's because whoever said uh said that before her went to Taco Tico. Taco Tico next door.
SPEAKER_01Oh God, it was next door. Now it's I don't even know what. I mean, now the pit is a Walgreens.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a Walgreens. Checkmates is gone. So checkmate lounge. I've never been in that one old enough. I would never was old enough. Oh man, I went in a crackers lounge. I went. You went to checkmates. Of course you did.
SPEAKER_01I went to checkmates when I was at UNO, maybe. Yeah, well, you were in college. Yeah, I was 18 years old.
SPEAKER_02I wasn't even I don't I don't think I was old enough. It was still open.
SPEAKER_01I don't think yeah, no, it was still it closed with Katrina, I think.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01So or right before Katrina because I was old enough. I was a freshman, sophomore, going into Checkmates, 18, 19. I'm like, and I hear I remember hearing stories of my uncle, my uncle Charlie having his you know late night, fucking midnight philosophical come to Jesus meetings in the back of Checkmates truck and shit. Oh my goodness. You know, another one.
SPEAKER_02There was another there was another uh well actually where Jamma Claudius used to be a bar.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_02Or next door with a with a where the uh I don't know what that is, like a seafood spot next door in our output. Um now that I think about it, and I think it was a pool hall. Spiders?
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Spiders. Hey, I'm remembering something now. Come on, man. That was before uh that was when Popeyes was across the street from where Jamba Clot is now. There was a Popeyes on that corner. Um sound like we're getting a little static, but that's alright. Um, but yeah. Shout out to Jamba Clot. We we we we strayed off, but that neighborhood is great and it always will be a great neighborhood. I think it'll be well supported.
SPEAKER_01Very fr like family oriented area. Like that's a lot of old New Orleans. Chintilly is a lot of like old New Orleans.
SPEAKER_02Alright, yeah, this week do a quick repack.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You back? Sorry, guys. All right, it's all good. Um, but yeah, uh Diamond Clot is one of those places you you won't you will go back. Once you go for the first time, uh you you get the customer service and great food.
SPEAKER_01I wonder if you can call ahead.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure you can. I'm sure they do DoorDash.
SPEAKER_01That would be best, honestly, for me, just because I'm always on the road. But if I could like order ahead of time and just scoop it up. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You should go for the experience as well. Remember to go to our Instagram. You can see the pictures, you can see the pictures of the food, you can see um the atmosphere and how the place is set up. It's brand new. Get in there while you know everything is fresh and good. Yep. And I I'm sure that it's not gonna the the quality would never change, the service will never change. I think they're gonna do that. They have a lot of pride.
SPEAKER_01You can tell they're very prideful people. Um they're at 5 22. Uh, I'm sorry, 5222 Eleisure Fields, and they're open um 11 a.m. to either eight or ten o'clock every single day. So they're open every single day. Go check them out. Go get some jerks, yeah, go get jerked. Hey, go get jerk. Um yeah. And and and we are officially in April, which means we are officially in festival season.
SPEAKER_02Three weeks to Jazz Fest. You got three weeks to get your shit ready for Jazz Fest. Come on, man. All my people, all my people ready for Jazz Fest, some great music, some great weather. I mean it's gonna get hot again. Uh scorching every day, and it may rain for the Jazz Fest.
SPEAKER_01It's too far away, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, who knows? It happens all the time.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, normally at least one day that's a little messy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just get a little mud in between your toes. Give it up for two.
SPEAKER_01Wear good shoes, don't wear open toe, don't wear wedges, don't wear heels, put on a pair of tennis shoes, put on a pair of rain boots.
SPEAKER_02Anybody you're excited to see at Jazz Fest this year? I don't even know.
SPEAKER_01I think I I'm I'm honestly not gonna be really going to much just because I try to work when I can at PALS.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_01Because there's so much money to be made. Um, but I'm always off on Saturdays, so I think I'm gonna go the Saturday to go see Stevie next. Um I saw her in 23 or 24. Um and she was amazing, man. She put on one hell of a show and she sounded amazing. The show was amazing. She had a little, you know, a little talkie-talkie in the middle of one point, but that's just who she is. She's gotta tell you her life shit. But um her show and her music is just I just love it. I just love that that style. But um, yeah, so I think that's probably the one day I'll go. Unless I get free tickets somewhere, you know. Okay, look a sister up. Come on, guys.
SPEAKER_02Come on. If y'all have some free tickets, send them in to Roman uh Roman Booze, Yahoo.com.
SPEAKER_01You can't.
SPEAKER_02I keep messing out. Usually get that one. Yeah. But uh send booze and I have some tickets, man. We could use them.
SPEAKER_01There's another um really, really this is right up your alley. There's another really cool festival. Um, it's a film festival. Hey, it happens every year. It's the Overlook Film Festival at the Britannia. So it's like all horror. It's all low-key.
SPEAKER_00Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01Like indie horror shit. Um, and it's from the 9th through the 12th. Um, so that's next weekend. Um, all weekend, just shows constantly.
SPEAKER_02Constantly, right? Constantly. Independent or all over the place?
SPEAKER_01I think I think it's a little bit all over the place. A lot of indie stuff, a lot of small budget things. Some shorties. Yeah, some little short, you know, 20-minute things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and just a community of horror fans. Yeah, I'm sure my partner John Wood will be there. Um, y'all look out for John Wood. I'm sure y'all know who that is. He's on uh TikTok as well. You can go follow him. Uh he's all about horror and um watching movies. He this John goes to the movies every he sees every single movie that comes out. No matter what it is. It can be a cartoon, it can be, he watched every movie every week.
SPEAKER_01That is dedication.
SPEAKER_02It's very is very much so. But uh yeah, he's a part of our Time Cool family. That's cool. Uh yeah. So shout out to John Wood for following.
SPEAKER_01And you mentioned Jazz Fest uh in a couple weeks. That's three weeks.
SPEAKER_02You got three weeks.
SPEAKER_01That's what, April 23rd through May 3rd. But the week before that, you got French Quarterfest from the 16th through the 19th.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_01The entire French Quarter is taken over. It's a free festival. It's fun as fuck. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um I love French Quarter Fest.
SPEAKER_01You literally walk the entire French Quarter and listen to all the amazing, plus all the street artists and the you know, the actual artists and the food, and it's such a great time because it's French Quarter already a vibe.
SPEAKER_02It's already a vibe on its own.
SPEAKER_01This is my favorite month. April and October are my two favorite months because you've got a little bit of heat, but like you've got that beautiful breeze, uh, an occasional little shower, sunsets, beautiful. It's just it's perfect.
SPEAKER_02So if y'all want to visit New Orleans, come see what we're talking about this month, April. April, October are the two best months. To come, honestly. I think Booze hit that on the hit that on the head. Go ahead and take a drink now. Um, but yeah, come and visit, come and uh come and hang out. This is a beautiful time. Um, what else is happening besides those two festivals?
SPEAKER_01Well, you got the Zurich Classic, which is right in between um French Quarterfest and Jazz Fest. Um, so if you're you're a golf guy or oh the Zurich Classic, yeah, absolutely. That's another festival.
SPEAKER_02Another one. If y'all have tickets and y'all don't want them, send them to us.
SPEAKER_01I've never been.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's fun. It's a it's a vibe, yeah. And I play golf, so at least I try. I've been trying the last 20 years or so. Um, but yeah, and I love golf. So uh, yeah, if anybody got tickets, let me know. Let me know. Let me know. Send them to Rome and Booze at Yahoo. Yeah.com. I got it that time.
SPEAKER_01Got it. Uh there's only two Pells games left, too, of the home season. So uh Sunday the 5th and and and uh Tuesday the seventh of the last team home games. So if you need to go check out a game, go check it out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean it's fun to go in there, but I don't know what that team what what's up with that team or what we're doing. We got good players, but I don't know. There's no leadership.
SPEAKER_01I feel like there's no leadership. I don't know. I don't really follow basketball that much.
SPEAKER_02Not not like I should, but it's it's interesting to uh just to see what's happening. Like, and I was so excited in the beginning of the season. I'm like, oh man, we got some young, very young Studley guys, really good players, and like we should do something.
SPEAKER_01It just looks like they don't want to be here. It just looks like they don't want to play, and that's you know, I mean people don't know. It's unacceptable. Yeah. So I don't know. People don't want to play for the Marlins, but they do anyways.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that there's talks, there's talks of you know that that you know that L can sell a team. I don't know how true that is. If y'all know anything, let us know. Um send us in some comments. You can even leave a if you go to our buzz route, you can leave a voice memo for us. And depending on how good it is, or how or you know, if you have something really positive to say, nothing negative, uh, we may put you on the show. We can splice you right in.
SPEAKER_01No, leave something negative. We'll play it and then we'll play on your ass.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, do whatever, do whatever you want. We'll we'll see what uh we'll see what happens. But yeah, you there's a there's a button on our fan page where you can uh you can leave us a voice note. So y'all try that out. Give us uh leave us some voice notes and let us know how we're doing. Um what else we got going on? Uh like we said we we did say we did mention Easter Sunday. I know ton tonight that there's Saturday night. Saturday night. Well, tonight we'll we'll Yeah. Oh, my brain go crazy when I start thinking about what day it is when when this air. But anyway, tonight there's a silent disco at the do drop in that I'm I'm interested in going through.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the do drop. Wait, the the do drop here in New Orleans, not the one in okay. I know the one in May the Bill.
SPEAKER_02No, the one here in New Orleans um uh is having a silent disco is three DJs. I think they're playing RB, uh hip hop and bounce, and you get to switch on your headset to which DJ you're listening to. And it's a fun, it's a very fun time. You've never done that? No. Booms, you should try it out. I'm telling you, it's a thing. I I didn't I I thought I had no interest in that because I didn't really know what it was. Uh-huh. And I went to my first one, it was at a mansion on uh on Canal Street.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02So it was two levels, I think. And there was a DJ upstairs, there was a DJ outside, there was a DJ in the front room, and it was just like, all right, what's what is this about? And it was like, oh, if you switch the colors of how your headset light up, you listen to that DJ.
SPEAKER_01To that DJ.
SPEAKER_02And you see certain people with lit up green, certain people lit up red, and they all dancing. They all two different rhythms, and you take the headphones on all the time. It was quiet as shit, and you're like, there's no sound. You just hear people laughing, and then you know, you'll occasionally see people, you know, take their heads off and they talk it really low, though. It's like a very low very strange, but everybody else is dancing, everybody's having fun. She was squeaking on the ground like it's fucking a basketball court, you know. That's it's it's so much fun, though. I know I always laugh at people doing that shit. You'll never think of how fun it is. And depending on how good the DJs are, oh, they can get a real party going. Because if everybody gets on the same station, that means that that DJ powers up. And then like he's the win, he's winning that moment of the party. So it's all about who can get the most people to listen to your DJ set. So you're doing your best. Yeah, they compete. It's so much fun. So if y'all want to check that out, that's at the do drop in free plug, free plug for them. We're doing all these free plugs. Um, but you can also advertise uh with us as well because the free plugs will stop after we're warning you. Uh anyway, but if y'all want to support our show in any kind of way, y'all can reach out to us. Uh I mentioned it before, but roam and booze at yahoo.com. Please reach out or go to our buzzsproute, leave us a message. You can DM us on Instagram. We are on Instagram. Um, I don't think we're on Facebook or TikTok yet, but we may work on that. SPEAKER_01I was gonna say my la my last thing I was gonna say is just remember Hogs for the Cause is next weekend, um, the 10th and the 11th, Friday and Saturday. Please go support. It is a little bit on the pricier side to get in as a festival, but you gotta remember what this is going towards. This is going towards pediatric brain cancer. This is you know, this is. super important. Helping a lot of families. Yes, let's let's try to like eliminate some of these things. Like like we're working with the sickle cell in New York, you know, like these these are the things that help fund you know solutions. And you know uh it it it's it's just really really important. So um I think tickets for Friday are 60 bucks, Saturday is 80 bucks. Um if you want to go both days it's 110 bucks. So um that's your tickets to get in there are musical artists all day both days um and then you know I there's probably 40 something teams um so you can try a million different ways of pork and you know whatever.
