SPEAKER_08

This podcast is opinion-based only. How many people you know with the middle name Marie?

SPEAKER_03

Uh at least thirty.

SPEAKER_08

Thirty people.

SPEAKER_03

Minimum.

SPEAKER_08

Is this a common thing or what?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's a very Catholic, you know, middle name. If it's not your middle name, it's a confirmation name or something like that. I mean, your whole point of the middle name is either either to be something familial or religious. I'm on it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, alright. Get up on it like your won it. I'm on it. Don't worry. You already know what it is. We back.

SPEAKER_03

My name is Hunt.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know why. That always pops in my head every time you introduce yourself. Let me introduce myself. My name is Humpty. Every time.

SPEAKER_08

All right. Let me introduce my uh my lovely, beautiful, wonderful, rosy red co-host, Ashley Boo. That's me. What up, Boozy?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you know, same shit. Same toilet, baby.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, same carpet still warm all over the place. Uh my neighbor used to say that all the time. Same carpet still warm? Still warm all over. I've never heard that. Yeah, that's a good hope. That's a player saying right there. Of course you never heard that one before. I didn't hear it either. I didn't hear it uh before either, before he told it to me. But you know, first time for everything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we all got our weird sayings that we've either come up with or heard over the years, and we're the only ones that say it. I've got a few that people know when I say them.

SPEAKER_08

Same old shit.

SPEAKER_03

They're dirty as hell, but it's funny, you know?

SPEAKER_08

What's up, Booze? Uh notes. Hardcocks and airplanes. You got a few of them. But uh give it up for us. Booze and I are back to give y'all another another episode of this great show, man.

SPEAKER_03

Um we took it a little old school today.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we did. First of all, we want to thank our sponsors, our people who make it happen, who actually contribute to what we do every week. We want to give it up for them, so uh no particular order.

SPEAKER_03

We got Julian, we got David, we got the Porter's and in the house, we got Shell.

SPEAKER_08

Shell. Shell is actually in the studio today, recording uh here to hang out with us.

SPEAKER_03

Uh and by studio, we mean my really cute little chair sitting in the half-living street.

SPEAKER_08

This is a beautiful studio. Um, shell is here. What's up, Shell?

unknown

Hey yo!

SPEAKER_08

All right, give it up for Shell. Shell in the building. Um, good to have you, babe. Glad you're here, live and in person. Uh, maybe you'll chime in if you want to. If not, just chill out, relax. Uh you got all you need. Over there.

SPEAKER_02

She got Max. She can keep him entertained.

SPEAKER_08

Max is keeping her company, so that's a good thing. Um, a lot going on in the city, booze. Uh, what do you want to start with? Do you want to start with anything particularly? No, I honestly. We did go to a uh we ended up going to a pop-up. And let us clear something up real quick because this is uh this is what we do. We give y'all of the ladies, we give y'all of the we give you all of the the the best of the best. So the the things you know and you don't know about. We talk about here on uh Rome in the Streets with Booze. And um we we bumped into uh not bumped into, but we fell into another uh a gym, a special gym in the city.

SPEAKER_03

Um It's one of my favorite spots. I've talked about this bar before, and uh we'll obviously get more into it a little bit later, but like Pizza Out in the Cold in the Irish Channel is such a wonderful little neighborhood bar, and I think like I said, one of my favorite things about this city is how many neighborhoods and neighborhood bars, and every time you walk into one, it feels the same but completely different. Yeah, you know, there it's just such a you know, it's my favorite. I there's there's nothing more like great when you walked into the city. And they got those floors that you know as soon as you walk in, you're like, oh, this is a dope place. They've been here for a long time.

SPEAKER_08

We'll talk about it. We'll talk about it. Give it up on pizza out in the cool. Y'all stay tuned to give it our review on that. We did go over there, there's a lovely pop-up over there and had some food. But uh in the meantime, in between time, booze, you ready? I'm gonna hit them with it. You ready? Let's go. You are rocking with us. This is your favorite podcast. This is Roam in the Streets.

SPEAKER_02

Woo-hoo!

SPEAKER_08

All right, booze. All right, booze.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I found your lighter like you lost last week. All right, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I sure didn't lose a lighter here last week. We were having so much fun. I I I couldn't find it when I left. And uh I heard you found it, so let's celebrate for that. What up, what up? What up? We need to get some roam in the streets with booze lighters. We need a lot of things, man. We need y'all to go to the donate page, the donate button on our on our buzz brow page is what I meant to say. And go ahead and drop a few coins down on your favorite podcasters. Come on, we got y'all in the know what of the know-what's about the city of New Orleans. We telling y'all everywhere, all the little hit gems, all the places you want to go, all the people you want to see, the uh hangouts that's exclusive to only the locals and beyond. You know what I mean? We keeping y'all hip to what's going on in New Orleans, Louisiana. Boobs.

unknown

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_08

Let's uh let's put them on some new shit. What's happening this week? What we got, what we got, what we got. So, first of all, wait, hold on.

SPEAKER_03

I think we should go back with what happened in this past week.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, what happened? How was your week?

SPEAKER_03

Man, it was intense. Like, like camping. It was intense.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um we we talked about it last week, but um, this past weekend was banana ball in the city. So you had two um St. Paddy's Day Parades and Banana Ball. And this city was just absolutely electric.

SPEAKER_08

It was never seen so many people dressed in yellow before. You know what I mean? Everywhere you went, it was yellow jerseys, and there's kids wearing the biggest.

SPEAKER_03

Bananas are the party animals or um I I got the I had the pleasure of going to the game on Saturday with a big group of friends. And the thing was, is like, if you know anything about it, is the but savannah bananas are so popular that you can't just buy a ticket. You have to enter a lottery in order to be qualified to buy tickets, and then you can buy up to five tickets. So we had I think eight or nine of us enter the lottery and three of us got tickets. So we were able to obtain four. So that was a team effort. Yeah, that was a team effort.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I was like, we all going.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, there was like a there was like eight or nine of us, and we're like, look, we're all gonna go in, and if we get in, you know, we are all guaranteed that the eight or nine of us are gonna go, and then we'll get as many tickets as we can and see what we can work out and blah blah blah. So we did pretty good, and I actually got to I sat with uh our our boy Julian, uh his daughter winter, and our our boy Kirkland. I was like, when we were trying to figure out who was sitting with with, I was like, look, I was like, me and Julian and Kirkland are like the baseball people. I was like, why don't the three of us sit together and just like be cool and then so y'all could just nerd out on y'all loads? The best freaking time, dude. They had no drama around us, everybody was happy. Like, it was a dad and his son in front of us, and you could tell that um the son was you know on the spectrum, you know, like 99% of us, I swear to God.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Um, and the more the more grown up I get, the more I realize like when they say a spectrum, I'm like, yep. I'm pretty sure every single one of us is on it, and I'm okay with it, and I'm gonna go ahead and you know take my things. But he was so good with him, and this this dad and this kid were just at the absolute, they were having so much fun, and it was so good to see.

SPEAKER_08

And yeah, they bring a lot of joy to a lot of kids and folks alike, yeah. It's crazy to to to watch that leticism that goes beyond just playing baseball. It's wild to go into entertainment because that's what it is more entertainment than it is the actual sport of baseball, but there's a lot of hour.

SPEAKER_03

Throwing strikes and this dude is doing backflips, catching a ball, and you know, uh a pop-up to left field that's 380 feet, you know.

SPEAKER_08

Insane it's insane. Give it up for banana ball, man. Y'all did y'all think y'all had y'all had my city pretty lit. Uh it was probably last weekend.

SPEAKER_03

It was the most fun family like activity I've ever been to.

SPEAKER_08

So did they have any performers? Anybody we should talk about? So, yeah. So who was it?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, it was kind of great because on Saturday, Tyler Shuck came out during their quote unquote halftime. And they played a little scrimmage football, and Shuck, you know.

SPEAKER_08

I saw that. I saw clips of that all over.

SPEAKER_03

And then Drew Brees came out on Sunday, took a couple at the end.

SPEAKER_08

Ooh, the greatest of all time, Drew Brees, give it up.

SPEAKER_03

There was uh there was a like this 81-year-old guy who was uh, you know, a little league coach like all his life. He got to come take some some swings and rode in on his bike because he can't run away. Yeah, it was a it's absolute it's a two-hour thing. Like it's not just like who gets the most runs or whatever, like trick plays go into it. So there's a lot of different things that kind of go into it. And I'm I'm telling you, it is the most family, the most fun, family-friendly event I've ever been to in my life. I couldn't stop smiling. There's music blaring the whole time, and it was really cute sitting next to Julian and his daughter Winter because there'd be songs playing and Julian wouldn't know one, so we'd look at Winter and go, Hey, well, who who sings this? And she would be like, she would tell him, or she would be like, I don't know, and then I would poke my head over and be like, ah, that's Kesha, you know?

SPEAKER_08

But it's that family bonding time, too. It was so beautiful. Yeah, but this is a great time. Yeah, you see a bunch of that in there.

SPEAKER_03

We were everybody was just a little bit everywhere, and you know, you catch up before the game, you catch up after the game. Uh-oh. Let's pause it for a second, and we'll catch back into this. I'm gonna unplug it and replug it in. There we go. Yeah. Oh man, why does that even sound better?

SPEAKER_08

Way better. But mine isn't even static. It's the way we position it.

SPEAKER_03

I'm probably pushing it in too far.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know. Because I just kind of undidled it. Take a drink. All right.

SPEAKER_03

Take a drink, mother. And we're back.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we're back. We're back. Little tech tech difficulties. We sound better. You sound great, booze.

SPEAKER_03

I do sound better.

SPEAKER_08

That's Shell, you still in the building? What's up, Shell?

SPEAKER_03

She said, I'm here.

SPEAKER_08

My lovely, beautiful wife. Give it up for Shell, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Every time we talk to her, though, Max goes and like gives her love. Like, it's hilarious.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you know what?

SPEAKER_03

He's like, Well, y'all are talking to her. I should go talk to her too.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, so but what's he's the best, man. What's also awesome is that uh Max is not entertaining his toy, his squeaky toy that he'll normally, you guys are normally here, Max doing the squeaky toy in the background. But since Shell is here, he's uh he's entertained by her, so give it up for Shell for being here. Yeah. And not that we mind um Max's squeaky toy. We think it's hilarious. Actually, it's been funny that the last few times it's happened. So give it up for Max. Max Amelia.

SPEAKER_03

He's the best.

SPEAKER_08

Can't do it without him.

SPEAKER_03

He's got the happiest wiggly butt. Like that tail is moving a mile a minute every day, all day.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny though. I'm sorry, I don't mean to sidetrack and talk about my dog for a minute, but it's so funny because his the weather determines how our walk in the morning is gonna be. And I know we've talked about how much I love my morning walks with him. But like this morning, when it's right at like 50 degrees, it's just cold enough that all the little bugs and the lizards or everything are not crawling around. So I can walk him and he doesn't get sidetracked.

SPEAKER_08

Right.

SPEAKER_03

So we have a really great walk in a very short amount of time. So he'll chase the lizards and oh my god, he is an expert lizard hunter, dude. What? He has killed, like, man, when them little babies come out and they're only about two inches long or inch long, dude. He gets two, three a day.

SPEAKER_07

We'll call it Max, the lizard killer.

SPEAKER_03

The lizard slayer.

SPEAKER_07

The lizard slayer. He's got his max. I didn't know about that, man.

SPEAKER_03

He is uh an assassin, and it's hilarious. He's got his alligator right now. He said, Y'all gonna talk about squeaks?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he got his squeaky toe. He's like, Oh, y'all thought we forgot. All right, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so yeah, so this back this weekend. So it was also Super Sunday.

SPEAKER_08

Super Sunday was amazing. We had a wonderful time. Shout out to Super Sunday. I know a few people that went out.

SPEAKER_03

How'd you think it was a great time?

SPEAKER_08

It was great weather too.

SPEAKER_03

I was gonna say it's been perfect weather again for the past.

SPEAKER_08

Oh man, the weather here. We have the best weather in the world. Don't forget who told you. I told y'all the first time. I told y'all last season. If you want to revisit that episode, go listen to some of that. I think you'll enjoy it. I'm gonna call bullshit when it hit. When I called all of this, I told you we have the best weather in the world. You cannot doubt it. Um, it's been really nice, been really nice. Uh and that last weekend was no exception. We had a great time at Super Sunday. We saw a lot of uh Madi Gras Indians. It was uh or Black Masking Indians or you know, however we we say it nowadays, but it was such a great crowd, uh a lot of uh different um tribes coming together and and keeping the tradition alive, which I love, man, because you can still see it kind of play out in the park, and you can imagine how it was like in the 70s or in the 80s, and you know, it was like Max, Max, I I spoke too soon. Bub, I spoke too soon.

SPEAKER_03

No, I mean we actually ran into some tomato grinds on our way uh back today.

SPEAKER_08

You went around. I went around, I was smart, I was like, nah, I'm going to the right where that sandpiper, you know, it's that the sandpiper. We're talking about when we left the uh the uh we did go to the uh a pop-up spot today. We'll tell y'all about it in a little while. Y'all keep listening. But um, yeah, uh on the way home, on the way to the recording studio. Yeah. Come on now, we got a sound big. We got a sound big from the re to the recording studio. Booze ran into a little bit of Mardi Gras.

SPEAKER_03

It's all right. Nothing a little detour couldn't fix.

SPEAKER_08

A little Marty Gras Indian traffic, but give it up for Booze for making it, making it happen. You know, I mean still got here in record time, you know.

SPEAKER_03

And I tell you, I can navigate this city hard.

SPEAKER_08

Really? Uh oh. Hey now, I'll take a drink. Take a drink. Come on, take a shot.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't say the body, I just said the body.

SPEAKER_08

Well, I'll say take a shot. Anyway, y'all.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, we got one more, we got what? One or two more parades this weekend.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah, there's still some more parade to do. Come on, y'all got it. I hope y'all got y'all notepads and pens. Y'all know the rules around here. I shouldn't have to mention it every episode, but I will. I'll talk to y'all like uh your assistant principal, the disciplinarian, used to talk to y'all when y'all was in middle school and high school. You better have your notepins and pads. Get ready to write down everything, every bit of information we give y'all, all of the what nows and what knows about the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. We are getting static y again, huh?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Let's let's hold, let's do a quick cut and try this one more time.

SPEAKER_08

All right. Let's go.

SPEAKER_03

All right, we're back.

SPEAKER_08

That's how I know where to cut it when I see that little spike mock, you know what I mean? But uh, anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man. I hate static.

SPEAKER_08

Too much static is not good. We don't like static around here. We get rid of it. That's all right. You know what it is. We you are listening to, just to remind you, you are listening to Rome in the Street.

SPEAKER_03

Woo-boo!

SPEAKER_08

And we're giving y'all all the input you need to know about what's going on in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. This we were talking about how fantastic the weather was um this weekend. We had Super Sunday going on and uh banana ball and I got bad news.

SPEAKER_03

What I'm not going to Mexico now.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah, what happened? We jinxed it.

SPEAKER_03

No, um uh fortunately for Julian on hell, Unhell no longer has to go to that conference. So he gets to stay for his entire anniversary trip. And I'm like, God dang it.

SPEAKER_08

I think we spoke too soon. That's why you I think we got a little you got to a little too excited, and then you start mentioning stuff, and then when it don't happen, it's kind of like a letdown. So you always gotta, you know, yeah, hold some stuff, even though it's exciting to talk about, but you know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, did you watch any of the um the finale of like the the WBC?

SPEAKER_08

Uh I did hear about it. I heard that we got uh spanked by we didn't get spanked, we lost three to two.

SPEAKER_03

That's not like crazy. I mean spanked. So Venezuela was winning. Yeah, Venezuela was winning. I mean, they hit an early run, I think in the second or third inning or whatever, and then they hit another one a little bit later.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then Bryce Harper comes up in the in the bottom of the eighth. Bryce Harper didn't do a damn thing the entire freaking tournament, like looking like a damn dud. And then he cranks a two-win bomb to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. When I'm telling you, we went fucking absolute wild with pals. Like it was insane. Pal's is officially a baseball bar at this point because we took the fuck over, dude. We're not a sports bar. It's not a sports bar, it's a baseball bar.

SPEAKER_08

Sports bar.

SPEAKER_03

And then we'll have the you know, Saints game on or whatever, but um it was to the point where we had the volume for the TV on in the back and only had the jukebox on in the front half of the bar. Like we took over and it was just so much fun. Nice. And we lost, but Venezuela was like, exciting, though.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it sounded like an exciting game. Who Otani did it?

SPEAKER_03

First time they didn't make it in the W whole WBC's first time.

SPEAKER_08

But did he do something? Did Otani do?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he I mean he cranked a shit ton of homers. He did just.

SPEAKER_08

I don't imagine. I mean, I couldn't do it. I couldn't because I I'm not that deep into baseball, but watching all of those uh active, like great players all.

SPEAKER_03

You need to pay attention because this guy is the greatest baseball player. By the time his career is over, he will be the greatest baseball player of all time.

SPEAKER_08

Of all time. Of all time. You gotta say that you will live it during the that's a good thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, you should absolutely pay attention to baseball. Watch Shohei. This dude is insane.

SPEAKER_08

I've watched it.

SPEAKER_03

There's nobody, there is nobody that has ever hit the ball and pitched the ball the way this guy does.

SPEAKER_07

Give it to Shohei over time.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely phenomenal to watch every single time. If you get if you see them anywhere close to you, if you see the Dodgers coming anywhere close to you and you see he's pitching, will he ever leave the Dodgers?

SPEAKER_08

You think he'll return to the body? Probably not.

SPEAKER_03

So I think I think the reason he'll stay there is because of the proximity to Japan, right? He's gonna stay a West Coast team. Right. His wife is and also a very famous Japanese athlete. Um, so there's I mean they're they're gonna go back to Japan, but they want to be as close to home as possible so that when they can, they can. You know what I mean? It's it's it's a lot closer there. So I don't I don't foresee him going anywhere unless they take the most like you know what I mean, unless oh wow, that's a totally different sound. Uh yeah, unless somebody pays him the most obscene amount of money ever.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I can't see him leaving uh uh the Dodgers either, but it it'd be exciting if if it did that. But I mean, I can imagine that. No. What a great player group. What a shout out to all the baseball players who participated.

SPEAKER_03

But we're not here to talk about that shit. I'm sorry. No, but it's fun. I love it. It's a huge part of my personality.

SPEAKER_08

You are more of a sports person than I. I am. Shell is even more a person than me.

SPEAKER_03

She loves her saints, man.

SPEAKER_08

She loves her saints and she loves uh watching baseball too. And she'll watch college. She'll watch any sport, any level of it.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I have five sports related tattoos.

SPEAKER_08

That's what's that you have?

SPEAKER_03

I have five sports related tattoos.

SPEAKER_08

Sports related tattoos. Did you lose a bet or what?

SPEAKER_03

Only one is a lost bet. And that's an Astros star. The one time we bet something other than a case of the city.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you had to get to Houston. Well, I mean, that's our closest.

SPEAKER_03

I you know, I don't hate Houston. I don't love Houston, but that was the first Major League Baseball I ever went to was Astros Cubs, like back in the 90s. So we took a little one of those little six-seater prop planes from New Orleans. Uh wow. Lake Lake View. Um, sorry. You know the airport right there. In Lakefront. Lake Front. I couldn't think of Lakefront. Come on.

SPEAKER_08

She knows the city like the back of her hand. Y'all hear that shit? Come on, y'all. Give it up for boozy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That was that was I know what you meant. Little two-proped, six-seater plane from New Orleans to Houston. Shit was weird. That was my first flight ever. Could you imagine? Second flight? You know what my second flight in my life was? On a C-130 military cargo plane. I sat in the back strapped to the fucking wall.

SPEAKER_08

Who was the pilot? I have no idea. It was a um I was in something called the Young Marines.

SPEAKER_03

It's a national program or whatever. It's like, you know, programmed to keep kids doing something. Out of trouble or in trouble. Out of trouble. Out of trouble, like out of mischief shit. I was in R O T C all that shit.

SPEAKER_08

Was that before or after Trixie? Oh, way before Trixie. I was still a child. Trixie was being developed in those.

SPEAKER_03

Trixie was a bit of a college alter ego. Like before, before Katrina's still in college, just total fucking slut. Oop, we didn't say that. We gotta believe that one.

SPEAKER_08

No, we're not. Keep it going. Come on, y'all. That's why we listen to this podcast. It is the best podcast. Don't forget to go and like our Instagram photos. We put photos up for y'all for y'all alike. And tell a friend about us. Um, tell them about your favorite podcast and your favorite podcasters. You know, we're here for y'all. We're telling y'all all about New Orleans. Telling y'all about the little hidden gems and the stuff you don't know, the little uh secret dive bars and whatnot. Yeah. All over the city. There's tons and tons of them in this town. We did visit one of them.

SPEAKER_03

Today was great. It's one of my like I said, I've I've spoken of this place before, Pete's out in the cold. It's one of my it's my favorite Irish channel, little neighborhood bar. Um it it's just this little place that you know each each neighborhood has their spot, and this is definitely this is definitely the channels. Like it's everybody who lives there. And they got a doorbell too, though. So really yeah, when it's like the door was open today. Yeah, yeah, and they have um they're closed on Tuesdays, which is a fun random ass day to be closed on. Um, but they normally have food most days of some sort. They've always got like something going on, and they're just a great spot. And Connie has been there. I think you were able to get um a little interview with Connie earlier today.

SPEAKER_08

I sure did. I sure did.

SPEAKER_03

She's great, she's been there a hot minute, and uh, I've met Connie quite a few times through our mutual friend Julie. So uh let's cut that real quick so she can you can get an idea of what Pete's is and what it's about.

SPEAKER_08

All right, let's go to that interview. All right, thank you guys for uh throwing us here. We are live. We are at Pete's out in the cold, and I am with Connie. Connie, yeah, what's up to Connie? Um Connie's the ball to hand.

SPEAKER_09

Tell me uh how long have you been in?

SPEAKER_05

Over ten years. This is your neighborhood bar. Whether you're brand new or you've been here for years, this is your neighborhood bar.

SPEAKER_09

Right, you gotta make everybody feel like it's a neighborhood joke. Um, what's your favorite drink to make it?

SPEAKER_05

I make the biggest die bar margarita on the planet. I like the toy is my favorite one to do.

SPEAKER_08

It's way easier. Way, way easier.

SPEAKER_05

Um, do you guys always have a pop-up here, or is it most nights of the week except for Wednesday for now, but yeah, every night that we're here we usually have a pop-up.

SPEAKER_08

Alright, that sounds great. We had a great uh meal tonight. Um, and yeah, it was it was awesome. Um, anything you want to tell people who've never visited New Orleans, something special about New Orleans?

SPEAKER_05

I would say always check out the neighborhoods. There's a lot to happen here. You can leave the French quarter, jump on the street, borrow the bus, and just check out different neighborhoods because you'll find little gems like this all over the place.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we are bringing the gems. Alright, Connie, thank you for your time and your service, and uh we appreciate you.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you. Have a wonderful night.

SPEAKER_08

Alright, back to y'all at the studio. Alright, give it up for Connie and her kind words. We appreciate that, Connie. Yes, thank you for taking the time to talk to us while we were in there hanging out. It was kind of busy in there tonight. It was it was a good it was a good look. All the bar seats were taken. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh, you know, they had a couple frozen, so you know I had to get one. Yeah, I got the frozen Irish coffee because you know it's still close enough to St. Pat's that might as well have one. But they also had a frozen Pim's cup, which I really kind of wanted to.

SPEAKER_08

You know, Elsa gotta get a Bowman Queen. Yes, is it Elsa? Yeah, uh Elsa gotta get a frozen drink everywhere she go. Give it up for booze, though, because she always gotta try them out and she'll let you know. That was good, though. That was terrible. You know? Well, that's cool because that's unique to that bar too. And I guess they is that a different drink than uh Frozen Pim's cup, I've seen a place or two.

SPEAKER_03

Frozen Pims. I didn't try that one. No, that I didn't try that one. I should have gotten a small of each, but I went large and in charge and got the large frozen Irish coffee, um, which was good. Everybody's got their kind of variation of it, so it always tastes just a little bit different from place to place to place. I think my favorite frozen Irish coffee in the city though is still at Molly's. Molly's does. Mali's and Aaron Rose, though. They both have really, really, really good. Give it up for those two, boys.

SPEAKER_08

If y'all visit the city and you want a frozen Irish coffee and you go to either Molly's on the market, both French quarter bars, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Or just opposite ends.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Aaron Rose, man.

SPEAKER_03

You go see our little friend, Brookey Brooke.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. See everybody in there. Tell them, tell them Rome and Boo sent you.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Tell them Rome, give you the Rome and Boo special. Yeah, but I do know what that is.

SPEAKER_03

I love I love pizza a lot. It's just such a warm and inviting place. And like I was saying, it's got that like that that brick colored and white, just like broken stone-looking floor. And it's got the old like Miller light lamps.

SPEAKER_08

And I'm like, man, whenever you see that, it's like the Pizza Hut lamp. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That hang down like a chandelier kind of, but it's all uh stained glass.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. I was like, you know, when a bar's got that shit, it's gonna be a good part.

SPEAKER_08

The wooden the wooden paneling walls and the you know the old school furniture, just like nice little patio area. Look like they served prime rib in this mouth.

SPEAKER_03

Or have one hell of a steak night or something.

SPEAKER_08

Like some bloody meat is in the back. Come on now.

SPEAKER_03

They didn't have steak night, but they did have empanadas today.

SPEAKER_08

We did, we did try it out. Come on.

SPEAKER_03

They are a solid spot.

SPEAKER_08

Um now the empanadas uh they they were different. I I liked them a lot.

SPEAKER_03

I liked every single one of them in a different way.

SPEAKER_08

When I saw it, and then the the you know, the touch, the feel, it's like cotton. Yeah, it was delicious. The touch, the feel, the magic of it. It was unbelievable.

SPEAKER_03

Uh that pop-up was crew to crave. Crew, like uh, you know, a carnival crew, K-R-E-W-E, uh, crew to crave. They um, so he has his normal like four. Uh he actually has normally five, but he he in an interview, I have a little quick interview with him too. Um he was talking about he he can't make his pizza sauce right now because the tomatoes he uses that come from Italy um are just hard to come by right now. And I'm like, I know.

SPEAKER_08

Take a drink.

SPEAKER_03

But uh we'll throw this to Matt real quick, and then he'll tell you just a little bit about his his situation and where you can find him. Hey, what's your name? I'm Matt. Hi Matt, I'm Ashley. Um, this is super informal, it's just mainly so I can have some notes later. But um, how long have you been doing empanada papas?

SPEAKER_06

Uh about nine years.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's awesome. I didn't realize you were around that long. That's awesome. These are absolutely delicious. Thank you. Um, so you do you change them each like season, or is it always kind of the same base?

SPEAKER_06

It's always the same form, and then I do like around Marie Gotham like dessert ones and cakes and cheese uh. Oh, that sounds amazing. I don't know. I have other ones I do, but these ones are always good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh, I was telling him I was like that spinach butter one, it's just like it's like so good. It's so good.

SPEAKER_06

I have a pepperoni pizza one, I do, but I used to.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like I've been here for that one other time, and I feel like I've had that before in the thing, but delicious.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I usually San Monsanto tomatoes, and you can't get them right now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, it's everything, yes. I have I have like four cans of San Marzano tomatoes in my cottage. That's the only kind of tomatoes I use in my spaghetti sauce and table itself. Yes. Um awesome. Uh so we can find you here regularly and where else possibly?

SPEAKER_06

Every once in a while I'm here. I'm I'm all over. Um parlays every Saturday night in Lakefield. Okay. Dovetail every Friday night. You know, dovetail. And then it's kind of random. Thursdays, like I was at Henry's last Thursday. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love Henry's. I try to be uptown because I live here on Thursdays.

SPEAKER_03

That's awesome. Well, I appreciate it so much, and uh, I will definitely tag you in our episode when it drops. Dude. Which should be Saturday.

SPEAKER_08

All right, boobs, give it up for y'all. Man, that was a good interview. He's quick, yeah. It was quick. Man, what great empanadas they that I mean the the flake. Hey, Shell, you Shell awake? Is she over there? She's how did how was the crust on the uh empanadas? You wanna come and talk about it a little bit? You want to say anything?

SPEAKER_03

She said, hell no. Let me sit down. I'm relaxing. They look great, though. Um, come on.

SPEAKER_08

Wait, hold on. We ain't gotta you gotta we gotta put you on the mic so we can hear you. Oh, it was so if now we're not gonna be able to hear you.

SPEAKER_03

I was super, super impressed with that spinach and feta and banana. It was almost like a perfect um oh, oh my god. Oh my god, my brain is broken. It's a really great Greek food. Um it's kind of the same thing, but it's more of a puppy.

SPEAKER_00

It's um, it was beautiful. Yeah, oh it's so good. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That crawfish one was super dope. Yeah. It had like a crawfish cream sauce and yeah, they're five bucks a piece. So they were they were delicious. I enjoyed all of them.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, well, thank you, Shell. Thanks for your input. We appreciate it. It's gotta be up in your face, girl. You gotta talk closer to your own.

SPEAKER_02

She was about ready to slap the shit out of you, boy.

SPEAKER_08

I'm trying to hold a mic closer to her mouth so we the world can hear you. You want to people are listening all the way across the world, and I'm trying to make sure they can hear you. And the only way they can hear you is is with uh if you put the mic close to your mouth. But she didn't she didn't want to put the mic close to the city. Go ahead, take a shot, take a shot, take a break. Let's go. Um, but yeah, what a great pop-up. The embanados were awesome. I I uh I really enjoyed them. Big applause. Um I really, really enjoyed them. And what's the name of it? Crew de Crave. Crew de Crave.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_08

Please check them out. They are on Instagram. Um, I believe he he said he's been there a while.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's yeah, he's been doing it for nine years. So he um he pops up regularly at uh Dovetail and Parlays on uh like Friday and Saturday. Wow, good enough for him. But yeah, he did his four today were cheeseburger, and like I said, these are his normal empanadas that he has pretty much every day. Um he had a cheeseburger which had like cheddar cheese in it, um crawfish pie with a cream sauce, uh spinach and feta. Awesome. Um and a buffalo chicken, and I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken because guess what? It didn't have a ranch in it. Right. Because everybody throws ranch and with everything blue cheese. I'm like, it just destroys the buffalo flavor.

SPEAKER_08

But it was shredded, it was like a shredded buffalo flavored. I don't I don't know the buffalo sauce was perfect. It was amazing. I was like, hey, he got it, he knows what he's doing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was a perfect it was it was probably something like a Frank's that is you know done in the butter and make it a true buffalo sauce. Yeah, it is and then it was just all tossed together with some mozzarella cheese and in that perfect puff pastry. Right.

SPEAKER_08

No, the pastry, the flake that it was so flaky. I uh we made a mess. Yeah, we made a mess all over the table. It was you you can't help it, but what a great, what a great, uh, what a great vibe. It was so glad I went there. Um if y'all ever in that area, definitely check them out. Out in the cold, please go and check out that pop-up.

SPEAKER_03

I think I saw they do bingo every week too on their little calendar. I forgot to take a picture of the calendar so I had it.

SPEAKER_08

But um, our bad. They have a great they have a great lineup over there. They always have a funny quote outside on the uh on the chalkboard. Very welcoming spot.

SPEAKER_03

Um and they have the cutest little vending machine for local art. So a local artist um has drawn photos of the bar. Uh like all the really great neighborhood bars in the city. And they have one of those little sticker vending machines that it it's you know takes four quarters and you pull out and you get a great little little piece of art. Um, so we grabbed three of them and we got FM's, um Friendly Bar. Friendlies and uh Le Bontons. LeBontons.

SPEAKER_08

But they had like the country club, they had uh pals, they had um everything.

SPEAKER_03

They had it. Brothers three, which is another that is look, that's another one of those bars that I love going to a couple times a year because it is like it's just a reminder.

SPEAKER_08

It's a dank little bar, dude.

SPEAKER_03

It's a it's it's it's so low ceiling. Uh you got grumpy bartenders half the time, but like in the best way.

SPEAKER_08

It's dense with dive. Not in a disrespectful way. It's one of the most diverse dive bars you can go to in New Orleans, Louisiana, besides amongst many of them. But that's a um that's one of them worth going to.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, speaking of dive bars, there's a really um a great one on St. Claude called Saturn Bar. And they're doing this um amazing benefit, this upcoming Tuesday, that I would like to let everybody really know about. And please, if you can, go check it out. So this this Tuesday, March 24th, um they're hosting a beauty pageant called the Michelin Stars. And what they're doing, sorry, excuse me. What they're doing is they have a bunch of bartenders and service industry folks that are competing in a beauty pageant with silent auctions and things like this. Um, and everything is benefit benefiting the immigration services and legal legal advocacy. Okay, it's a good day. Legal advocacy. So um they're basically just making sure that everybody that is being screwed over right now is um kind of being taken care of. And it their quick little statement just says ESLA provides pro bono work to ensure that the legal and human rights of detained immigrants are protected in Louisiana. Um I would love for everybody to go. Our very, very, very, very good friend and one of my co-workers, Charla, um, is competing in this pageant. So I would love to see as many people there as humanly possible. Marcus from Porgies and Aviva, who a lot of us know, he's in it. Our friend George Michael, who works on the uh bagel truck at Tul on the Tulane campus for Flower Moon. Um, he's also gonna be in it. So it's gonna be a lot of our friends, it's gonna be a lot of people we know. So um we could really use all the support and all the benefits to really help make sure that um our grima our immigrants are you know advocated for properly and you know justly so uh nothing bad happens.

SPEAKER_08

So we'll give it up for Saturn Ball for that. Yeah, hell hell yeah. All positive things. Um if you could do something better in your community, go ahead and do it. You know.

SPEAKER_03

And it doesn't take a lot, man. It really, really, really doesn't. It's the little things that matter.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, indeed. Well, um anything else we missed on the uh on the notepad or pen.

SPEAKER_03

I think the only other thing I was thinking about, I think we mentioned it already. It was that.

SPEAKER_08

Today is St. Jose. St. Jose's. Yeah. So we got that's a big event here though. And if you didn't get to see Super Sunday uh Madi Rai Indians at Super Sunday, then tonight. Gosh, I remember would have been a night for you to catch St. Joseph night and uh, you know, too bad, too bad I'm not partaking because I'm here providing y'all with information. Booze and I come on give it up for us. I I remember all the St.

SPEAKER_03

Joseph's altars I went to as a kid. Um my old church, St. Genevieve and Slide Hill. Right on the bayou. It's honestly it was one of the most beautiful picturesques. Like just just a perfect little church with like all the oak you know, walls and the wood walls and the beautiful St. Glass just overlooking this rickety bridge and this beautiful bayou and uh Katrina half took everything out, so it's a brand new bridge, brand new church, and it's not it's still pretty, but it's not like it used to be. But I remember doing all the the altars and stuff like that. My brother was an altar boy there, like I used to teach CCD there. True cat. Yeah, oh yeah, I did it all. And then I grew up and realized what was going on. Sorry guys, I have got something in my throat for the past like 30 minutes, so you keep copying.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you want to uh yeah, take a drink of water. Give it up for booze. She's trying really hard. You see, she does her homework uh and providing y'all information and whatnot. She does uh some research. Unlike me, I do no research. I just kind of just go with the flu, you know what I mean? But he's roaming the streets. I just roam the streets. But good thing we got booze with us, so uh we always got something to talk about. Um I do want to mention uh oh, there's the French Film Fest this weekend. I don't know if anybody's gonna be able to do that. Oh, where's that at? I don't know where it is. Well, what the hell? You're catching me out the blow.

SPEAKER_03

See, this is why I'm the one that comes prepared.

SPEAKER_08

I know with the with the no. I just said that. I just said that. I was giving you props on that. Um but I was looking for more information about it. I didn't really uh see a place that was being held. But I mean, it's it's out there if you want to look it up. You can figure it out. I'm sure you can. You said look for yourself, asshole. Yeah, I'm just gonna tell you what's happening. I'm not telling you where to be and how much the tickets are. That's none of my business. I don't know who though. Do they have valet parking? I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Shout it.

SPEAKER_08

I do not know. Don't ask me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you know what they just had recently too? Is uh Phantom of the Opera was here in town recently. I heard that went over pretty freaking well. My little my niece is. Uh I think so. I think so. Um my niece, my 16-year-old niece, she for some reason it like loves that. She's yeah, I don't know. Is it more of a she's got such a unique personality? I love it.

SPEAKER_08

Is it is it more of the um does she love uh what is it, theater or surprisingly enough, she's obsessed with like the Japanese culture.

SPEAKER_03

She's taught herself Japanese on uh um Duolingo.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, she can write in Japanese and yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's it blows my mind. I'm like, these kids today they are fantastic and the worst all at the same time.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, indeed. Man, I want to remind y'all, I mean it's amazing, like for real what you're saying. Um I want to remind other uh listeners out there that we are broadcasting straight from the streets of New Orleans and uh we like to spotlight different things, you know, different chefs, bartenders, pop-ups, hidden gyms, especially hidden gems. Um we have the realest conversations and uh we're we're the real culture and a real flavor of what's going on in Louisiana and in New Orleans for real. Um I want to let y'all know that we're building a platform that celebrates the heartbeat of this independent food and bar culture, and we're we're invite we invite brands to uh grow with us. Isn't that right, Booze?

SPEAKER_02

Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, if you if your brand believes in you know community and like culinary creativity and like culture. Culture driven storytelling, maybe, or supporting small busin uh businesses, then then uh let's partner up. Uh we have a we have a huge audience, you know, it's it's booties and hospitality professionals. We have uh festivalgoers and pop-up lovers, yeah. We have culture curators and you know our our demographic is you know from the age maybe 21, I would say, to 45. What you think?

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That's about our age demo.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, yeah, I think I think our our age range is the people that like we're kind of friends with, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_08

Yes, people with buying power, you know what I mean? Like they they can uh they can freak with your business if you if you advertise with us or want a partnership with us. Um your sponsor benefits uh come with brand placement and episodes, on-site event mentions, you know, uh social media promotion festival and live um activation opportunities.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_08

I just wanted to say that, booze. I hope I wasn't too long. I hope I want to.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's very informative.

SPEAKER_08

All right, nice. Well, any other info? Oh, I wanted to give some more shout outs. Um I know that we have a lot of listeners that listen from all over, always say that. And I just want to mention some uh wait, there we go. I want to mention some uh of the cities that uh listen to this show a lot. And it's you know, it's not a few, but it's it's a lot of cities. So um without further ado, let's see here. We have none other than Metary, Louisiana.

Uh he's coming down to the city soon, and he uh said he'd subscribe to the pod to get an idea of what's going on in the city and places to try out. So shout out to you.
